& why you shouldn't blindly trust the tools [View in browser](=.YFuN3T27DxAbWe1gs9Hs7PScnTtSwvf20KKeGbd_bYI) Here's your long-overdue reminder to never blindly trust the tools when it comes to your copy. Although I, too, use a headline analyzer tool when picking email subjects for my newsletters, I won't discard a headline just because some tool gives it a lower score. Why? Because I know my audience better (I've been doing this for 9 years, come on!). This is an example from an A/B test for on of my resent email newsletters (statistical confidence: 90%) 👇 [Results of an email subject A-B test] If I: - decided not to run an A/B test - discarded the seemingly low-scoring headline (just 51? how lame 🙄), and - chose the one with the highest score (72? that's the one 🤩) ...100s of you haven't read my email (which would have been a real pity for both of us). So yes, A/B test your headlines and email subjects. Not sure how to come up with your test candidates? This should help 👇 [An Ultra-Practical Way to Come Up with a Great Headline When You Are Struggling to Be Creative](=.4lTyu1ItVQvnhCHAvqFssNDhgxuVywVtKSnh3bjOe3A) This would be all from me for the week. This email may contain typos, and I'm fine with them because cloning humans is, unfortunately, still impossible. Spending more time proofreading my emails would mean I'll have to share fewer tips with you. And sharing more and better tips is more important to me than sharing tips that are grammatically perfect. I hope that's fine with you, too. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
