[( Josh Stein is running against Mark Robinson, who represents the most extreme, right-wing faction of the Republican party. Currently, Robinson is a board member of the NRA — so it’s no surprise that they’re spending money in North Carolina to attack Josh. It’s clear that Mark Robinson would put gun lobby profits over North Carolinians’ safety if he were elected governor. But in addition to his deep NRA ties, Robinson has made downright cruel comments in the wake of mass shootings in this country. After the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, Robinson made Facebook posts mocking the student survivors. He called them “spoiled” and “angry” for demanding commonsense gun safety reform after 17 of their classmates and teachers were shot and killed at school. In 2022, he spoke at the NRA convention in Houston just three days after 19 children and two teachers were shot and killed at Robb Elementary. We should all be outraged by Mark Robinson’s behavior. It is unacceptable, and North Carolinians deserve so much better. While Mark Robinson would spend his tenure as governor in the gun lobby’s pocket, we can be sure that Josh Stein will be a gun safety champion as North Carolina’s next governor. During his time as attorney general, Josh Stein has proposed substantive solutions to curb the threat of gun violence. As governor, he would fight for universal background checks on all gun sales; implement a statewide extreme risk law, raise the age requirement for buying military-grade weapons to 21, and better equip schools with staff such as counselors, social workers, and nurses to help kids and lower the risk of violence.
