In case you didn't catch my last email, we've got something big happening this Sunday. We're launching our newest Cheech & Chong's Dispensoria in Portland, Maine, and we're throwing a meet and greet to celebrate! It's happening this Sunday, October 13th, from 2 PM to 4 PM at 58 Exchange St, Portland, ME 04101. We even signed limited-edition posters for the event to hand out to everyone in line. (Guaranteed for the first 250 people in line... these hands aint getting any younger...) If you want to come hang with me and Cheech and snag one of those posters for yourself, [make sure to RSVP here]( and shop at our new Portland Dispensoria or East Coast Gold in Bangor before the event, spend $100 or more, and bring your receipt. Easy peasy! Now, speaking of Portland, you know me, man. Whenever I'm about to jet off somewhere, I like to do a little internet sleuthing. And boy, did I learn some interesting stuff about Portland, man. First of all, did you know that Portland, Maine is the original Portland? No foolin'! Apparently, Portland, Oregon got its name because all the evergreen trees in Oregon reminded a [very homesick Francis Pettygrove of his hometown](, Portland, Maine! How 'bout that? And the even funnier bit? It literally came down to a coin toss. See, Pettygrove's traveling companion, Asa Lovejoy (how's THAT for a name?), wanted to name it Boston, after his hometown. So they decided to settle the difference with a coin flip - best 2 out of 3 gets to name the city. I guess Lady Luck was feeling a little Pine Tree State pride that day, because Mr. Pettygrove won out (apparently, the penny used in the flip, now known as the Portland Penny, is preserved at the Oregon Historical Society) And while we're talking fun facts about Portland, here's a couple I dug up: - Portland has a museum dedicated to cryptozoology (I'm thinking after hanging with me and Cheech at our meet & greet, you'll be a lot likelier to spot Bigfoot yourself, man) - The Portland Observatory is the last remaining maritime signal tower in the U.S. I bet it's seen some wild things in its day - maybe even a few UFOs, man (I mean, if we're already looking for cryptids, why not aliens too?) - Did you know Maine dishes out almost 90% of America's lobsters? That's 40 million pounds a year, man. Anyway, I digress. If you want to join me in the Original Portland for a fun party at our all-new Dispensoria, [be sure to RSVP before you forget](. Spots are already going fast, and we only have guaranteed signed posters for the first 250 cousins in line, man... What about you? Does your hometown have any fun trivia? I bet it does (don't they all?) If you feel like sharing, just hit reply and let me know!
