You know I'm bleeding Dodger blue, right? I mean, I was born in East Los Angeles - that's Dodger country, man. And back when I was growing up, there was a time when baseball was my life. Little Cheech played shortstop and second base in Little League. I was this pesky leadoff hitter, always trying to get on base and start some shit, you know? Stealing bases, driving the other team crazy, man. This was around the same time as that famous 1957 Monterrey Industrial Little League team from Mexico. Man, I was exactly the same age as those kids. Those kids and the Dodgers were my heroes! So, anyways, I bring it up for two reasons. One - the MLB playoff season officially starts TODAY. I'm personally feeling very good about our chances (ever heard of a guy named Ohtani?) But reason two - I've got to own up to something (if only to clear out any bad juju, man). You might remember, but Tommy and I were in Chicago the other month for that Binny's High & Dry event we talked about a lot. We were planning on catching a game at Wrigley Field, and Tommy had been bugging me for weeks about wearing a Cubs jersey. Can you believe it? Me, in Cubs blue? I told him he must've been sampling too much of our own product, if you know what I mean. But man, Tommy can be persistent. He's like a dog with a bone, except the bone is a terrible idea and the dog is a 6-foot-tall Canadian stoner. "Come on, Cheech," he kept saying, "It'll be hilarious! We'll get custom jerseys with 420 on the back!" I'm telling you, Marilyn, I held out as long as I could. But Tommy? He's got this way of wearing you down. So, there I am, standing in Chicago, wearing a Cubs jersey with 420 on the back. I felt like I was betraying my childhood, my heroes, my entire East LA upbringing! [Cheech and Tommy Custom Cubs Jerseys] But you know what? The Cubs fans loved it. They were high-fiving us, taking pictures, the whole shebang. As we're leaving, Tommy turns to me with that big goofy grin of his and says, "See, Cheech? Sometimes you gotta step out of your comfort zone!" I just rolled my eyes and said, "Yeah, yeah. But next time we're in LA together, we're wearing custom Dodgers jerseys to a game, man." So, there you have it. The day I wore a Cubs jersey (never thought I would ever say that). Now that I've cleared the air, I feel like I can root for my team without a guilty conscience, man. By the way, I'd love to know - who are you rooting for in the playoffs? Reply back and let me konw Be good, Cheech P.S. Oh by the way, the guys down at HQ told me to remind you about our PARTY sale.
