So, I was flipping through my handy desk calendar this morning (yep, you know the one that lays out all of the interesting "National Days" throughout the year), and guess what today is? World Productivity Day. Now, I gotta ask... Does the world REALLY need a special "Productivity Day"? Of course, I get that it's just one of these made up holidays. And I'm all for hard work (I certainly got very lucky in my life, but I also worked very hard for the things I have today. In fact, I'm still working harder than ever, even in my 80's). But, câmon - donât you think most folks work hard enough just to keep food on the table and a roof over their head? Is more productivity and "output" really what we should be celebrating? If it were up to me, I think what people should really be celebrating is learning how to unplug and take a break once in a while, man. Here's what I've come to realize â most folks never really rest their minds and unplug, even when they're not "working". These days, it feels like we're all so afraid of being bored that we fill all of our time with screens, YouTube, Netflix, scrolling on the computer, you get it. Iâm guilty of that myself, man. Itâs something Iâm trying to get better at. When I visit countries like Italy or France, they do it very differently. They take long lunch breaks, and even naps during the middle of the workday! Can you imagine that in most cities in the US? Sure, there are pros and cons to both approaches, but I think we could all agree that a lot of us could use less "productivity enhancement" and more time touching grass (or hey, even smoking a little of it if that's your thing). Getting outside, spending time unplugged with friends, going to a concert, maybe even taking a nap during the day â now thatâs something worth celebrating. So today, I suggest you celebrate a little bit of "anti-productivity" along with your Uncle Tommy. Iâm going to hang out on my roof deck later with a few [Cruise Chews]( or maybe a [High & Dry]( in honor of the holiday, man. And hey, hit reply and let me know what you'll be up to today, or what you like to do to unwind and really relax.
