All the news you can use in a bite-sized format
Hi {NAME},
Happy Friday! Or as I like to call it, "Pre-Lounge Around in Pajamas and Sleep Until Noon Day." My favorite part of my weekend is the time I have most of my weekend left, which would be the moment I leave work. Don't get me wrong, I love my job but nothing beats the liberating feeling of not having to do anything.
There are so many fun things going on this weekend! There are plenty of places locally to celebrate the [145th Kentucky Derby]( Saturday is [Free Comic Book Day]( and Sunday is [Cinco de Mayo](. You also can check out the annual [Food Truck Cook-Off]( on Sunday at the Broadmoor World Arena. A fun weekend is yours for the taking so be sure to check these links for all the inside information.
In other news, today is National Lumpy Rug Day, National Paranormal Day, National Two Different Colored Shoes Day, National Chocolate Custard Day, School Lunch Hero Day and National Space Day.
Without further delay, here are 5 things worth sharing today.

2. We already know that our local zoo is a gem, but so do people nationwide. [Cheyenne Mountain Zoo was ranked in the top 10]( on Friday in a USA TODAY readers' poll. "Those folks (zoos higher in the rankings) may have done a better job of getting the word out about voting than we did; we can't be sure," said the zoo's spokeswoman Jenny Koch. Story by Liz Forster.
3. Cheyenne Mountain High School increased police presence Friday, after a [Cheyenne Mountain student made verbal threats to shoot a classmate]( and social media posts that included a gun, according to officials. Cheyenne Mountain administration is defending what some parents are calling late notice to the Wednesday incident. Story by Liz Forster.
4. Reaction ranged from [optimism to outrage at UCCS]( after former U.S. Rep. Mark Kennedy was appointed as the 23rd president of the University of Colorado system. "I know there's been a lot of controversy about him, but I'm excited to see what he'll do," said one student. On the flip side, "the worst decision the regents have ever made," said another student. Story by Debbie Kelley.
5. The Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets will be busy this weekend with playoff games, and gazette.com will have full coverage. The Avs are even 2-2 with the San Jose Sharks thanks some [gritty work and goalie Philipp Grubauer]( who accomplished a career first in victory. Story by Kate Shefte.
