A few days ago, I get the following LinkedIn message from a guy called "Usman". === "Good Morning Csaba I see you want to optimize the loading time of your website gameofconversions .com I have reviewed your website in detail and will optimize and increase the loading time in a quick turnout time. I am an expert in WordPress, CSS, HTML, Jquery, and SEO to make it successful., I will make the 100 scores on all tabs and will not use any additional plugins on your site. I aim to give you optimum results as I want to build a long-term business relationship with you. It will remain the same in the future., We will use these tools to verify your site page speed and all Google Core Web Vitals will be fixed. {LINK} Screenshots of previous works, {LINK} The current site examples with high page speeds., {LINK} {LINK} {LINK} Attached is a screenshot example. Looking forward to talking to you. Usman, {LinkedIn Link} Whatsapp:{Number] Skype: {Name] === Or in other words... The typical copy/paste could outreach template I've received from 100s of people after posting a single job post on Upwork a few weeks ago. (more details about this story [HERE](=)) Anyway... Since I've already hired someone who did a (mostly) good job, I ignore this message. But then, 2 days later... === "Hi Csaba thanks for the connection. Do you still need help to increase the website speed?" === Since I'm super busy working on a new sales page, I ignore it again. But then, 2 more days later... === "Hey Csaba Let me know if you still need help increasing the site speed. I have expertise in ThriveThemes WP Rocket Cloudflare {LINK} According to this report, I will give you a 100 score on all tabs (Desktop and Mobile) except the Performance tab which depends on many factors. Will not use any additional plugins. Just the same plugins and the best settings that fit with your website stack. Can you use Payoneer for the payment? It is easy for me in Pakistan. I will send you a 50% invoice and need your Wordpress logins to start working. I will need $130 and do the work in 2 days. If you want to work on Upwork or have any questions about me then let me know." === Now... I normally appreciate people following up because we all get distracted by all sorts of stuff... And sometimes all people need is a gentle reminder... But since this project isn't relevant for me anymore... and since I feel like this guy is too pushy... I ignore him once again. (I mean...why would I ever give away my Wordpress login details to a stranger who can only be paid on Payoneer just like that??) But - like a good pitbull chasing after its prey - Usman doesn't give up! Because another 2 days later, he pm-s me again: === "Hey Csaba Let me know if you still need help increasing the site speed." === OK... So at this point, I actually feel a bit guilty for not responding to this guy earlier... And - in a way - I appreciate his tenacity... So I reply: "nope, thanks" And literally 2 minutes later... === "That is fine. If you need site speed optimization services and a 100 score on all tabs then I am looking forward to talking to you." === "Fair enough", I think to myself. I don't need this type of help anymore, and I've even turned down Usman's offer... So in my mind, it's all good. - I read his messages - I even replied after a while (despite the canned template) - And I told him "NO"... so he doesn't have to wonder if this is a maybe and he can move on Win, win... right? WRONG! Because after 2 more hours, he's back! === "If you still need help with the site speed part. I will share the Upwork account with you to invite me to your job. Usman" === Maaaaaan, for real? How much of a "hint" do you need to finally understand that I'm NOT interested? So, as soon as I see his message, I reply: "Duuuuude, leave me the hell alone already!" And this point, I'm thinking this SHOULD be enough to finally make him go away... right? Right?! RIIIIGHT?????? NOPE 😀 He's back... AGAIN... (Probably to haunt my nightmares!) === "Hi Csaba Everything is fine Man. I write you a simple message and you are very aggressive to talk. If you need site speed optimization services and a 100 score on all tabs then I am looking forward to talking to you. I have attached a screenshot of my recent work. {LINK} {LINK}" === LOL. A "simple message", eh? You call SIX (6) pushy, low-effort messages a "simple message"? Let me give you a hint: it's not. And ESPECIALLY when you communicate it in this passive-aggressive tone... making it sound like I'm some sort of "bad guy" for not hiring you on the spot! Jeeez, what would it take for this guy to piss off already?? So, frustrated, I send him a VERY clear reply: "piss off already this is NOT a simple message go bother someone else. I'm NOT interested" Sure... Not the nicest message I've ever sent someone... But I figure, this should do the job... right? Right?? RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT???!?!!! By this time, you probably know the answer... 😅 Because 7 minutes later, he's back baby! === "Ok. Is anyone in your circle can be benefit for my services.? I would appreciate if you help me to connect with them and do some business." === And at this point, I'm STUNNED. I'm genuinely stunned! 😯😯😯 Can't this guy take a hint? Does he have a "special condition" or something? Or is he just so incredibly ruthless? (he'd probably be a great scam artist... maybe a PUA) So I can't resist NOT replying: "I'd never recommend someone so needy and pushy, sorry" To which he says: "Go to the worst hell then" WOW. Talk about: "Your friendly neighborhood tech guy who can fix all your problems" ...turning into... "Your vengeful narcissist asshole showing his real colors" All because I won't recommend him to my friends. Well... NOW you see why 🙂 I'd be kicking myself if I ever vouched for a guy like Usman and he pulled something like this with a friend. So - at this point - I KNOW this story is going to turn into an email... So I reply, one last time: "Wow nice, this is gonna make for an EXCELLENT email to my list on toxic freelancers :)" And it seems like this worked... Because Usman hasn't replied ever since! (yet) A true Happy Ending. But alas... Here's my point with all this: Some people just don't "get it". No matter how hard you try to teach them, they don't want to understand how good business (and personal) relationships work. And as a result, they end up pulling shit like this... And as a result of that, they end up tarnishing the reputation of freelancers in general! THIS IS EXACTLY WHY CLIENTS ARE SO SKEPTICAL WHEN THEY WANT TO HIRE SOMEONE. Because they constantly receive obnoxious pitches like this left and right. So if you're a freelancer who wants clients... DO NOT be like Usman, ok? And if you're a business owners who wants to hire freelancers... I'm sorry about all the BS you have to put up with when trying to hire someone.
