{NAME}, I'm guilty. I'm guilty of NOT feeling the pigs today. In fact, I haven't even fed them this whole week... And that's not good! Why? Because if I don't feed the pigs, they die, and I won't have any pigs left. So.... What the hell am I talking about with this weird intro? Let's back up a second, shall we? A few days ago, I heard a heart-wrenching story that stuck with me ever since. The story told the tale of several hundred pigs that have died from starvation and dehydration on a farm. The poor creatures had suffered beyond belief... And literally died on top of each other over several weeks. But the truly sad part? ALL of this could have been easily prevented... had it not been for the farmer's twisted psychology. You see, {NAME}... The pigs had not been abandoned or forgotten in a classic sense... The farmer who owned them simply had a devastating heartbreak after his wife left him... And was SO depressed, he couldn't muster the motivation to feed his pigs... (or call someone else to take care of them) And they all died of starvation. So -- apart from the suffering of his animals -- the farmer also lost his main income now that the pigs were dead. A true lose-lose situation if there ever was one. So why am I telling you this dreadful story? To underline the following point: One of the first victims of a particularly difficult emotional situation -- a breakup, death in the family, a failing marriage, or a great sense of loss -- is the structure of your daily habits. When life deals us a major blow... It can be hard -- if not impossible -- to continue our everyday lives as if nothing had happened. Everything gets turned upside-down... And we often go from being able to shift our attention effortlessly between work, friends, family, kids, hobbies, and the world around us... To suddenly only being able to focus on ONE single thing: How much these emotions hurt! And as a result, we often end up sabotaging our lives even more... Digging ourselves even deeper. THAT's what I've been mostly doing with my business these last 2-3 weeks. I'm a bit ashamed to admit it, but it's true. Since it seems like my marriage is failing -- no matter how much I'm trying to save it -- I spent waaaay too much time trying to deal with my emotions... Reading every book about the topic I could get my hands on... And doing A LOT of therapy (of all sorts) to better deal with this crisis. And although I 100% believe these things are some of the highest "emotional ROI" things I can do right now... I still neglected to feed my pigs... And pretty much ignored my business the last 2-3 weeks. (thank God for the numerous automations I set up years ago that still dripped out quality content to my subscribers) BUT... With this email, I want to make a public proclamation: I *WILL* continue to feed the pigs... Despite how sad, angry, hopeless, or tired I feel. Those things WILL eventually pass... And no matter how the story ends, I'll at least have a healthy herd of cheerful pigs bringing life into our farm. So anyway, remember this: Regardless of what's going on in YOUR life... Regardless of how bad things might seem... Regardless of how strongly those negative emotions might be weighing you down... And regardless of how "pointless" it all might seem... YOU GOTTA FEED THE F'IN PIGS! (whatever the pig metaphor represents in YOUR life!) Makes sense? Hope so... Cause that's what I got for you today.
