With the holiday season fast approaching, it’s important to check how your payroll system accounts for [public holidays that fall during paid leave](. If a [public holiday]( falls on a day an employee would have normally worked, the employee must be paid for the public holiday. Where an employee is on paid leave (like [sick leave]( or [annual leave]() over the public holiday, your payroll system should pay the employee for their ordinary hours and the day shouldn’t be deducted from their accumulated leave balance.
