One of the things I’m always on the lookout for is “mental models” that can help me succeed better, easier, and faster. There are many. But one of my favorites is one you may have heard about - the Pareto Principle. It states that 80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts. You have probably heard of it. It was discovered by economist and sociologist Vilfredo Pareto over 100 years ago. Pareto looked around his life and noticed a pattern: That 80% of the land was owned by only 20% of the people… but also that 80% of the peas in his garden were in 20% of the peapods. This pattern seemed to be consistent across domains. Pareto said that “for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.” What this also implies is that 20% of your results are coming from 80% of your efforts. When you stop and really consider the implications here, they are profound. One implication is that you can essentially stop doing 80% of what you do, and you’ll keep getting almost the same results. One way I used this in my life is with the way I eat. I figured there has to be a small number of foods (the 20%) that have a lot more nutrients (the 80%) per calorie than other foods. This led me to find out that foods like... green vegetables, blueberries, and black rice... which have far more nutrients and antioxidants, than average foods. When you go and look at the comparisons and “do the math” it is really quite astonishing. So now guess what I eat? Lots of green vegetables, blueberries, and black rice! And my health is so much better. I feel better, my body has more energy. And much more. The key is that I started out by asking “What are the small number of foods that have the highest nutrient density?” In retrospect, it’s kind of obvious to approach food this way. This is just one way that I’ve applied Pareto to my life. What is important here is to start looking at your life with this mental model. Look at it through the lens of looking for the 20% that gives you the 80% returns. You’ll find it gives you permission to let go of the activities, patterns, habits, relationships, thoughts, and other aspects of life that are not delivering high returns to you. Plus, when you stop doing something that was in the 80%, and you use that time to do things that are in the 20%, you multiply your success. This approach can free up a huge amount of your time and energy, which you can then REINVEST This mental model is just one of many I cover in my book, Opportunity. And I want to send you a copy today as a gift from me… [image]() “The best book after Napoleon Hill.” “The best book I’ve read in years.” “Like an Enlighten-Ing Bolt.” Inside, I reveal why knowing how to spot opportunity and take advantage of it might be the most important “success skill” you can have. Having the right mental models (like the Pareto Principle), are critical for spotting an opportunity and seizing it. And guess what? I have been collecting mental models like the Pareto Principle for over 20 years. I compiled dozens of my favorites inside of my book “Opportunity” - which I want to send you today as a gift (and I’ll send you the hardback edition, you just cover the shipping). You’ll learn what opportunity is, how it works, and where to find it… how to find more opportunities in business, money, investing, health, happiness, relationships, and personal development… and even how to find your greatest opportunity in your own life. You’ll be surprised at how much you can let go of... freeing up your time, your energy, and giving you clarity and peace of mind. I’ll leave this up for another day: [=> Here’s the link again, just go here to get it](=) Enjoy! -Eben © Copyright 2024 Go Meta Media LLC, All Rights Reserved.
