My opponent Karen Handel is awful on LGBTQ+ rights Rep. Lucy McBath is running for re-election in Georgia's 6th District, in a true "toss-up" seat against her well funded 2018 opponent former Rep. Karen Handel. If you no longer wish to receive emails you can [unsubscribe here.]( {NAME}, We do things a bit differently down in Georgia (Atlanta Pride happens every October), but it’s not lost on me that we got some amazing news to start this week from the Supreme Court during Pride Month. In case you missed it, on Monday two conservative judges joined the liberal minority on the Supreme Court to enshrine employment protections for LGBTQ+ individuals. As our campaign team celebrated when we heard the news, I couldn't help but think of one person who probably wasn’t smiling -- my opponent Karen Handel. Why? To put it kindly, Karen has an awful track record when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights: IN 2010: Handel stated on the record that she believed gay couples shouldn’t be allowed to adopt children. When pressed further by a reporter, she offered a simple explanation: “Because I don’t.” She even went so far as to say “Do I think that gay parents are in the best interest of the child? No.” THEN: In 2017, she laughed at another reporter’s question about gay marriage. She said "Why is marriage between one man and one woman? Are you serious?" WHILE SHE WAS IN MY SEAT: The Human Rights Campaign gave Handel a 0% score for her voting record relating to LGBTQ+ rights during the 115th Congress. [I take my commitment to the LGBTQ+ community very seriously. I fight every day to ensure that people like Karen Handel are not able to make laws that hurt our LGBTQ+ friends and family members.
