how to get higher-paying clients anyway Hey {NAME},  I’ve been helping 2 of my coaching students land bigger, higher-paying clients. And one of the biggest problems they run into is “the experience question.”  That’s when a client asks you for examples of your work or relevant experience…  But you don’t have any.  It’s a common situation that most freelancers will encounter during their career. And knowing how to handle it is often the difference between landing high-paying clients that accelerate your career and watching your income hit a plateau.  Yet almost every freelancer I work with makes the same mistake when they try to get a client to hire them despite their lack of experience.  Including the 2 students I’m working with right now. Which is why this topic is on my mind.  See, both of my students showed me how they were going to reply when a potential client asked about their experience.  And I noticed right away that both of their messages are what I would call “defensive.”  Meaning their overall tone focused on the fact that they didn’t have the experience the client asked for. Then they tried to explain why the client should hire them anyway.  For example, their message would essentially be: “I don’t have any direct experience, but I do have other experience that’s close.”  Notice how this calls attention to the fact that they do not have experience first. And then it tries to explain why it’s not a problem.  That’s not a winning position if you ask me.  Instead, I suggested both students change the entire frame to focus on what they do have.  For example, they would say something that communicates: “Here are all the awesome things I have done, which are close to what you’re looking for. And that’s why I’m confident I can also do an excellent job for what you need.”  If you want, you can even leave out the fact that you don’t have experience entirely.  You’re still being completely honest with the client about the experience you do have and why you think you’re a fit.  Yet instead of calling significant attention to one of your shortcomings,  you’re focusing on all the reasons the client should hire you.  Which will go a long way to helping you land higher-paying clients — even if you don’t have experience.  Make sense?  Until next week,  -Brian [Unsubscribe]( | [Edit your details]( Freelance Like A Pro PO Box 281 Bloomingdale New Jersey 07403 United States [Powered By Kartra] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
