[5-Bullet Friday](=)
---------------------------------------------------------------
Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of â5-Bullet Friday,â a list of what Iâm enjoying or pondering.
Book Iâm revisiting â[Siddhartha](=) by Herman Hesse. This is one of the books most frequently recommended by podcast guests. Long ago, [Naval Ravikant](=) ([@naval](=)) highlighted for me the protagonist Siddharthaâs response to âWhat can you give?â His simple answer is âI can think, I can wait, I can fast.â Thereâs much more to his response ([search âKamalaâ here for a good excerpt](), and I think about it often. Skip the Amazon description, as it gives away too much plot, but consider reading or rereading this short gem. If youâd prefer an even shorter read, try this: [Can We All Be Like Texas?]() by David Byrne ([@DBtodomundo](=)).
What Iâm listening to â [How Strange (Nicola Cruz Remix) by Feathered Sun](=) ([@featheredsun.de]().
Mental model Iâm using again to set new policies and rules for 2020 âVia negativa: improving by removing. âVia negativa can also be used to describe a similarly ânegativeâ way of improving oneâs life; instead of concentrating on what you do, the focus turns to what you donât do. This path has two main thrusts: stripping bad habits and situations out of your life, and avoiding bad habits/situations in the first place.â (Source and worthwhile short read: [Adding to Your Life by Subtracting](=) [Art of Manliness].) Also related: â[Finding the One Decision That Removes 100 Decisions (or, Why Iâm Reading No New Books in 2020)](.â
Person Iâm learning more about â [Betty Eisner](. This woman is amazing, and this isnât my first time reading up on her. Iâm revisiting because of my re-engagement with a few scientific projects. To give an example of how these connect, Betty appears to be one of the originators of using âdyadsâ (simultaneous male and female therapists) during hallucinogen administration, a format that is currently being used to great effect in [the treatment of PTSD using MDMA-assisted psychotherapy](). Hereâs more on her wide-ranging CV, adapted from Wikipedia: Betty was an American psychologist known for pioneering the use of LSD and other psychedelic drugs as adjuncts to psychotherapy. She conducted early research into the use of LSD to treat alcoholism and maintained an active interest in hallucinogens throughout her career. Eisner was a therapist for Bill Wilson, co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, when he tried LSD. In addition to using hallucinogens like LSD and mescaline in psychedelic therapy, Eisner also gave stimulants, such as methylphenidate and the inhaled gas mixture carbogen, to her patients. (For those interested in current research into how compounds like psilocybin can be applied to alcoholism, I highly recommend looking at the [work being done at NYU](=).)Quote Iâm pondering â âPerhaps the feelings that we experience when we are in love represent a normal state. Being in love shows a person who he should be.ââ [Anton Chekhov](=)
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Let me know! Just [send a tweet to @tferriss](=) and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all!

P.S. Deal of the week â [Laird Superfood](. I love Laird Superfood productsâ[creamers especially](âand was introduced to them years ago by Kelly Starrett and the founders: legendary big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton and volleyball champion Gabby Reece. My favorite two products are their [Turmeric Superfood Creamer]( and [Unsweetened Superfood Creamer](=), and a $10 bag lasts a long time. Both can easily upgrade your daily coffee or tea ritual, and I put one of them in practically everything.
Each serving is packed with a full range of MCTs to help keep you (and your brain) going from AM to PM, even if youâre using intermittent fasting. Theyâre packed with plant-based ingredients, like powdered extra-virgin coconut oil, and flavors include cacao, chocolate mint, and turmeric. Simply stir, power-froth, or blend into your cup of coffee, and you have a superfood latte. This is one affordable indulgence Iâve really come to love. Get 20% off your first order and score free shipping at [lairdsuperfood.com]( with code TIM at checkout. Stay fueled, my friends!
