I posted this yesterday and it seemed to resonate with some folks so I wanted to share here. It's a bit personal but it's also a good applicable thought for lots of situations. Here goes: Thoughts on losing someone and asking, "Now what?" I'm sure there are many ways to see it, but I see mostly two paths. I recently lost my Dad. We had a great relationship, and he had a long and super interesting and productive life, and all is ok. But it's still a loss. My family is "less" with the loss. In another example, sadly, one of our excellent posters on our Footballguys Message Board Forums recently died. In both cases, someone accurately observed, "This place will be less interesting without them." That's a fact. Assuming nothing else changes. I have this thought often when someone awesome passes. And the "group" is "less" than it was. In the overall group of people, the loss of that person affects the group as the good things they brought are no longer being contributed. This works the same whether the group is the entire human population, or a message board forum, or your family. Obviously, the smaller the group, the bigger the loss, as that person no longer there is a bigger percentage of the good things being contributed. The bottom line is the group is less without this person. That's undeniable. My thought then is: "What do we do with that?" The easy answer is we just accept we're less and move on. And likely get a little bit less over time. Rinse and Repeat. Or what if we don't accept that nothing else changes? What if we chose to move toward asking, "Who's going to help fill the void?". And to be clear, many times, the people we've lost are super unique and special. Nobody is going to "replace" them or what they did. But in a general sense of things like "less interesting," I think people can help fill the void. Maybe that person is you. Maybe it's me. Maybe it's us. So I think the right response from the group when facing a loss is asking what we're going to do to help make up the good/interesting/fun/insightful/etc that we lost. That's on me and you and us. And I think it's likely the best way we can honor those we've lost. Peace and Grace to you. Now here are a few bits of News and Notes from our Cecil Lammey. Let's Go. WAS: Kliff Kingsbury headed to Washington [Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter]( Southern California offensive assistant Kliff Kingsbury is being hired by the Washington Commanders to fill their vacant offensive coordinator position, according to league sources. Our view: Kingsbury gets back to the NFL after spending one year at USC. The former Cardinals head coach gets to take over an offense that needs a franchise quarterback. With the no2 overall pick, the Commanders will be in line to take a quarterback with that selection. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. WAS: Eric Bieniemy not returning [Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter]() Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy will not return to the team, he told the media Monday, Feb. 5. Our view: The Commanders have Kliff Kingsbury as their offensive coordinator, so Bieniemy will look for a job elsewhere. He may be hard-pressed to find a coordinator job with open spots being scooped up, and going back to the Chiefs in some capacity would make sense. [Back to Top](#top) [] 3. NFL: Le'Veon Bell considering a return? [Source: ESPN.com]() Free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell (Chiefs) said he is considering making a comeback but is only interested in playing for one team. Bell did not mention the team but is believed to be interested in joining the Pittsburgh Steelers. Our view: I wouldn't hold my breath on this one. BAL: Jerry Rosburg hired by Baltimore [Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero]() Former Denver Broncos interim head coach Jerry Rosburg was hired by the Baltimore Ravens Monday, Feb. 5, in a role focused on game management. Our view: Rosburg is a no-nonsense coach with old school style. He'll be able to give the Ravens another experienced set of eyes to help craft things for a better gameday performance. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. BAL: Lamar Jackson to be more involved in scheme [Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley]() Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson will be more involved in developing the offensive scheme moving forward, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Our view: Jackson took steps as a passer in 2023, and there's more to come. Todd Monken crafted an offense that was dangerous, and with Jackson having more input it should be even more custom made for the superstar quarterback. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. We'll see you tomorrow with the Update.
