We're rolling toward the first week of preseason games for all the teams and not a minute too soon. We've got a huge day of content as we dive into what we're doing with Jameson Williams. Short answer is, "It's complicated." Then we talk late-round Best Ball QBs, Commander RBs, Tight Ends, Salary Cap, and IDP goodness. Plus a sweet look into why we're leery of Travis Etienne at his current ADP. And as always, the News and Notes from our Sigmund Bloom. Let's Go. J PS. Big News. Actually, it's a small thing that I think is big. After two weeks of wrangling, our Tech Folks have been able to implement hyperlinks into the table of contents for the news stories so you can click on the story and it'll drop you down the email right to the story. Please note, this doesn't work for every email provider. But we've been able to get it going for many. It's a small thing, but I think it adds a ton to the usability. Lots of folks asked for it and we put in the work and listened. Enjoy. DEN: Russell Wilson to play in preseason [Source: NFL.com]( Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson, along with the rest of the starters, will play in the preseason, according to HC Sean Payton on Saturday, Aug. 5. Our view: Wilson is playing in a new system, one that should downplay his importance. Expect a run heavy approach on offense with Wilson as a game manager, taking downfield shots set up by play action. Not a lot of players with Wilson's long track record of success will play in the first preseason game, but with a shorter preseason, Payton is smart to get as many live game reps for his new quarterback as he can because Wilson is trying to put last year's failures behind him. The team might have been considered too relaxed under Nathaniel Hackett last year, so Wilson's isn't the only one getting this treatment. We'll see if the different approach pays dividends in the regular season or backfires by resulting in preseason injuries to key players. [Back to Top](#top) [] 2. NYJ: Garrett Wilson's return pushed back [Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini]( New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson (ankle) is expected to return to practice Tuesday, Aug. 8, head coach Robert Saleh said Saturday, Aug. 5. Our view: The Jets are being cautious with one of their most important players and one of the first 20 players to be drafted in most fantasy leagues. Saleh said he'll return in a limited fashion Tuesday and then fully in joint practices with the Panthers on Wednesday. We'll be watching for any signs of a re-injury. [Back to Top](#top) [] 3. IND: Mo Alie-Cox in boot [Source: Indianapolis Star - Joel A. Erickson]() Indianapolis Colts TE Mo Alie-Cox (foot) did not practice and was seen wearing a walking boot Saturday, Aug. 5. Our view: The tight end position is crowded for the Colts, but if Alie-Cox has an injury issue, the 2022 third-round pick Jelani Woods could have a bigger chance to break out in fantasy leagues this year. Shane Steichen called it an ankle injury on Saturday. [Back to Top](#top) [] 4. MIN: T.J. Hockenson pushing for deal? [Source: VikingsWire - Tyler Forness]() Minnesota Vikings TE T.J. Hockenson (undisclosed) was present at practice but did not take the field Saturday, Aug. 5, and Tyler Forness of VikingsWire believes Hockenson's absence could be related to his desire for a contract extension. Our view: Hockenson hadn't taken part in team drills in the previous practice, and according to long-time team beat writer Judd Zulgad, he left the practice field with a trainer on Saturday. It's possible that he's dealing with a minor injury, but he and the team have been in contract talks, so that's the more likely explanation. There's no reason to change Hockenson's ranking unless we get additional information about an injury. [Back to Top](#top) [] 5. NO: New Orleans loses a pair of receivers [Source: NewOrleans.Football - Nick Underhill](=) New Orleans Saints WR Rashid Shaheed (groin) and Tre'Quan Smith (groin) exited practice Saturday, Aug. 5, with groin injuries. Our view: Shaheed also had a groin issue in minicamp, so this is a little concerning, but team beat writer Nick Underhill said he was told that it's not a major concern. Head coach Dennis Allen also said he hopes it's minor. Shaheed is a late round pick in fantasy leagues, but he was able to post 28 catches for 488 yards and two scores on only 34 targets as an undrafted rookie last year, and he would be in line to start if Michael Thomas can't stay healthy again this year. Bryan Edwards, James Washington, and sixth-round pick A.T. Perry are among the players who get more reps if Shaheed and Smith miss time. [Back to Top](#top) [] 6. IND: Julius Brents makes debut [Source: The Herald Bulletin - George Bremer]( Indianapolis Colts CB Julius Brents (hamstring) made his training camp debut Saturday, Aug. 5. Our view: Brents was selected with the 44th pick and many expected him to start for the Colts as a rookie. After losing Stephon Gilmore, Brandon Facyson, and Isaiah Rodgers in the offseason, the team has a combined five career NFL starts on the roster at cornerback from players not named Kenny Moore. Brents is a local product who has the length and speed to fit in defensive coordinator Gus Bradley's scheme. 2022 UDFA Dallis Flowers is the favorite to start on the other side. Jacksonville gets to feast on this secondary in Week 1. [Back to Top](#top) [] 7. CAR: Miles Sanders back on field [Source: The Athletic - Joseph Person]() Carolina Panthers RB Miles Sanders (undisclosed) participated in practice Sunday, Aug. 6, after leaving the last practice early. Our view: In case you needed reassurance about Sanders condition, this should help. He'll be the lead back in an offense that will be run-heavy to take pressure off of the #1 overall pick Bryce Young, who will start at quarterback. Run blocking is the strength of the Panthers offensive line and could assist Sanders in outproducing his modestly priced ADP, usually around the 6th round. [Back to Top](#top) [] 8. HOU: Tytus Howard injured Saturday [Source: Houston Chronicle - Brooks Kubena]( Houston Texans OT Tytus Howard (undisclosed) left practice with an undisclosed injury Saturday, Aug. 5, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. Our view: The injury is to his hand and it's not believed to be serious. Howard is the team's starting right tackle, who just got a three-year, $56 million extension. He's part of an excellent tackle duo with Laremy Tunsil anchoring an offensive line that is a better run blocking than pass blocking unit. [Back to Top](#top) [] 9. NO: No practice for Demario Davis [Source: NFL.com]( New Orleans Saints LB Demario Davis (calf) did not participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 6, because of a calf injury. Head coach Dennis Allen said the team does not believe the injury is serious. Our view: Davis is still an IDP cornerstone, but he's 34, so the cliff could be coming up soon. We trust the team's report, but if Davis has more minor injuries before the season, we'll have to move him down in IDP rankings. [Back to Top](#top) [] 10. DAL: Luke Schoonmaker suffers setback [Source: NFL.com]() Dallas Cowboys TE Luke Schoonmaker (foot) suffered a setback in his recovery from a foot injury, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. Our view: The Cowboys took Schoonmaker in the second round to be their tight end of the future, but it looks like Jake Ferguson will be the tight end of the present. Ferguson could get a much larger share of the production vacated by Dalton Schultz than previously anticipated, making him a good late round speculative tight end choice if you decide to punt the position or play in a tight end premium league. [Back to Top](#top) [] 11. NYJ: Duane Brown could return in two weeks [Source: NFL.com]() New York Jets OL Duane Brown (shoulder) is approximately two weeks away from being removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to head coach Robert Saleh. Our view: The other favorite to start at offensive tackle, Mekhi Becton, is dealing with knee discomfort after playing fewer than expected snaps in the Hall of Fame Game. Getting this position figured out and having consistent healthy play is going to be a key to Aaron Rodgers transition to running this offense. We'll be watching news about Brown and company closely. [Back to Top](#top) [] 12. GB: Danny Etling let go [Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette - Ryan Wood]( Green Bay Packers QB Danny Etling was released Sunday, Aug. 6. Our view: Fifth-round pick Sean Clifford could be in line to back up first-year starter Jordan Love. Clifford is athletic, but not ready for the NFL, so it's possible the Packers still have a move left to make at quarterback before the season starts. [Back to Top](#top) [] 13. PHI: Two players off roster [Source: NFL.com]( Philadelphia Eagles LB Davion Taylor was released Sunday, Aug. 6. The team also waived WR Charleston Rambo (undisclosed) with an injury designation. Our view: Taylor was a third round pick in 2020 with a strong athletic profile, but too raw to be counted on as a starter early in his rookie contract. Last year's third round pick, Nakobe Dean, should be the signature IDP in the Eagles linebacker group this year. [Back to Top](#top) That'll do it for today, Folks.
