And he got after it the last couple of days - we upped his pitch count so it was kind of the peak of the buildup. So he'll take off Day One. But we believe in the plan. So, he's cleared without restriction. There will be some time off due to pitch count and all that, sticking to the plan. But the great news is, Brock has worked his tail off and he's ready to go,' Lynch said during his press conference Tuesday, July 25. Our view: Good news for the 49ers here. Purdy is the clear-cut starter, so they'll be happy to have their main man out there. Behind Purdy, Sam Darnold and Trey Lance will compete to be the primary backup. --------------------------------------------------------------- [IND: Jonathan Taylor on PUP list]( Source: Colts.com Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (ankle) was placed on the active/physically unable to perform list on Tuesday, July 25. Our view: To clean up his ankle injury, Taylor underwent an "arthroscopic debridement" earlier this offseason. He can be activated off the PUP list at any time. --------------------------------------------------------------- [BUF: Stefon Diggs, Bills 'on same page']() Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs is 'on the same page' with the team and the issues from earlier this offseason are 'water under the bridge,' he said on Wednesday, July 26. Diggs also noted he wants to retire a Bill. Our view: Diggs is saying all the right things, and now that we're back to training camp the focus will be on the field. He was not happy this offseason, likely stemming from the way the team was bounced from the playoffs last year. Reports have speculated that Diggs was unhappy with his role in the offense and his voice in play-calling. --------------------------------------------------------------- [ARI: Kyler Murray to PUP](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray (knee) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 26. Our view: This move was expected. Murray is coming back from the knee injury suffered last year, and his availability for the start of the regular season is in question. We'll see Colt McCoy get the no.1 reps as he prepares to start for some time early in the season if Murray needs more time to heal. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LVR: Josh Jacobs a no-show](=) Source: CBS Sports HQ - Josina Anderson Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs did not report to training camp on Tuesday, July 25. Our view: Jacobs is not going to be there for some time according to reports. He's unhappy with no long-term deal and doesn't want to play on the one-year franchise tag. We'll see if and how this problem gets resolved, but things look like it could take some time. --------------------------------------------------------------- [CAR: Bryce Young confirmed QB1](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young was confirmed to be the starter entering training camp by head coach Frank Reich Wednesday, July 26. Our view: Young is going to start from day one, and experience will be his best teacher. He's a smart and accurate quarterback who understands what defenses are trying to throw at him. We're excited to see who Young prefers throwing to in camp and the preseason. A guy like WR Adam Thielen should be his security blanket, with WR D.J. Chark taking the top off the defense. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LAC: Justin Herbert inks massive extension](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport The Los Angeles Chargers and QB Justin Herbert agreed to terms on a five-year, $262.5 million extension on Tuesday, July 25, per sources. Our view: Herbert's contract is well deserved as he regularly fills the air with footballs, and now he could be in for even better numbers with OC Kellen Moore running the offense. The Chargers also added first-round WR Quintin Johnston to Herbert's array of weapons which includes RB Austin Ekeler and WRs Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. The no.13 fantasy quarterback in 2022 (standard-scoring leagues), Herbert should easily break into the top-10 and a top-5 finish is not out of the question. --------------------------------------------------------------- [CHI: Cole Kmet extended]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter and Field Yates Chicago Bears TE Cole Kmet agreed to a four-year, $50 million extension Wednesday, July 26. The deal includes $32.8 million guaranteed and $20 million in the first year. Our view: Last year, Kmet was the no.7 fantasy tight end (standard-scoring leagues) due to his 50 catches, 544 yards, and seven touchdowns. This year, Fantasy GMs are taking him off the board as a high-end TE2 or low-end TE1 in drafts. He's a great blocker, but his role on offense should be impacted by the arrival of WR D.J. Moore and veteran TE Robert Tonyan could get some looks as well. --------------------------------------------------------------- [HOU: John Metchie cleared]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Houston Texans WR John Metchie (hamstring) was cleared for the start of training camp Wednesday, July 26. Our view: Metchie is the type of player we all should root for. He missed all of last season recovering from leukemia treatment. A second-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft, Metchie was a stud at Alabama and he brings a lot of playmaking ability to the field for the Texans. We'll see how he meshes with rookie QB C.J. Stroud as Metchie works to be the no.3 receiver for the Texans behind Nico Collins and Robert Woods. --------------------------------------------------------------- [TB: Russell Gage sidelined]() Source: NFL.com Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Russell Gage Jr. (leg) has an unspecified injury that he's working his way back from, head coach Todd Bowles revealed on Wednesday, July 26. Our view: Gage is there to be the no.3 wide receiver for the Buccaneers behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. They'll ease him back into action, but rookie WR Trey Palmer will get more of an opportunity to impress. --------------------------------------------------------------- [LVR: Vegas works out two RBs]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Free-agent RBs Benny Snell (Steelers) and Abram Smith (Saints) worked out for the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday, July 25. Our view: Snell spent part of this offseason working out for the Broncos but did not make the team. Smith was with the Saints for part of last offseason after he was undrafted out of Baylor. The Raiders need more bodies at the position because starting RB Josh Jacobs is staying away from the team. --------------------------------------------------------------- [ARI: Zach Ertz to PUP list]() Source: Click2Houston.com - Aaron Wilson Arizona Cardinals TE Zach Ertz (knee) was placed on the active/physically unable to perform list on Wednesday, July 26. Our view: Ertz tore his ACL and MCL last year in Week 10, and he's been on the road to recovery ever since then. He wanted to be ready for the start of the regular season, and Ertz can be activated off the PUP at any time during camp. 2022 second-round pick Trey McBride has been working with the first team offense and could be a security blanket for whatever quarterback is slinging the rock (Colt McCoy likely early in the season, Kyler Murray perhaps later in the year). --------------------------------------------------------------- [ATL: Kyle Pitts practices Wednesday](=) Source: FOX 5 Atlanta - Miles Garrett Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts (knee) took part in practice on Wednesday, July 26. Our view: Pitts is getting back to full speed, and he should be good to go by Week 1 of the regular season. He missed the final seven games of the 2022 season after sustaining an MCL injury. Fantasy GMs are taking Pitts off the board where he needs to be (as a top-5 fantasy tight end). --------------------------------------------------------------- [BUF: Von Miller gives update on knee]() Source: NFL.com Buffalo Bills LB Von Miller (knee) feels 'very good' and is making progress in his recovery from a torn ACL, he said on Wednesday, July 26. Our view: Miller is a huge part of what the Bills want to do on defense as he can still get after the passer early and often. He is still aiming to be ready for Week 1, but said he wouldn't return any later than Week 6. That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. We'll see you tomorrow with the Update. Peace, J [avatar] Joe Bryant Guide [[twitter]]()[[facebook]]([[discord]]()[[youtube]]()[[instagram]]() Written By Joe Bryant.
