News and Notes from around the league  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ [Footballguys Email Updates](=) [Go PRO]( | [View Online](=) [Unsubscribe]( | [Sign Up]() [Footballguys.com](=)Daily Email Update • Vol. 24, #248 • Dec. 13th[,](=) 2022 --------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks To Our Sponsor, [Solo 401k]() Howdy {NAME}, I open this one today with a heavy heart bummed that we lost coach Mike Leach on Tuesday - one of my favorite people in football. Leach was truly one of one. He was authentic and funny and smart and a dang good football coach. I'll have a lot more on him in Random Shots tomorrow. For today, we hoist one to the Pirate. Rock on. For NFL news, our Dave Kluge has thoughts on a shifting backfield situation in Kansas City. --------------------------------------------------------------- With the Chiefs' upcoming schedule, you can start both running backs Jerick McKinnon and Isiah Pacheco down the stretch in your fantasy football leagues. However, while Pacheco had seemingly been the guy there, we think McKinnon might now be the preferred player. Pacheco dominates in total touches, but McKinnon seems like he's seeing the high-value touches, notably targets and red-zone work. We have a three-game sample to consider without Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Over that stretch, McKinnon has out-targeted Pacheco 12-to-5. In the first game without Edwards-Helaire, Pacheco was the preferred red-zone back. He saw 12 touches inside the 20-yard line but was inefficient with those opportunities. Since then, McKinnon has siphoned that work, garnering eight red-zone touches to Pacheco's two. Since joining Kansas City last year, McKinnon has been the running back that Andy Reid seems to trust the most. He got a lot of run in the playoffs last year. And now, as wins are increasingly important, he is seeing his opportunity share grow again. While Pacheco will be the between-the-20s guy, McKinnon's role as the passing-down and red-zone back gives him a high floor and ceiling. And with the Texans, Seahawks, and Broncos being the three matchups to close the season, he could push your team to a fantasy championship. --------------------------------------------------------------- Plus we've got additional News and Notes you need. [HOU - Dameon Pierce out](=) Source: Click2Houston.com - Aaron Wilson Updating previous reports, Houston Texans RB [Dameon Pierce](=) (ankle) will miss at least one, maybe two games, due to a high-ankle sprain. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No surprise here. Pierce has a high-ankle sprain, and he could miss a couple of weeks if not longer in order to fully recover. There's no structural damage to Pierce's ankle according to this report, so the team has optimism Pierce can return after a week or two. Rex Burkhead and Dare Ogunbowale will split time in the Texans' backfield with Pierce out of action. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [ARI - MRI confirms torn ACL for QB Kyler Murray](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Arizona Cardinals QB [Kyler Murray](=) (knee) was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament after receiving the results of an MRI on Tuesday, Dec. 13. He will miss the rest of the season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Not only will Murray miss the rest of the season, but Murray's status for the start of the 2023 season is also very much in question. He may not be back to full strength until late next season. Colt McCoy takes over as the starter, and he knows the system well so the Cardinals' wide receivers won't be hurt too much from a fantasy perspective. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [BUF - WR Cole Beasley re-joining Bills]() Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo Free-agent WR [Cole Beasley](=) (Buccaneers) came out of retirement Tuesday, Dec. 13, and is expected to sign with the Buffalo Bills' practice squad. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It won't take long for Beasley to get on the field as he knows the offense like the back of his hand, and he's got strong chemistry with QB Josh Allen. The Bills could move Beasley into the slot and take WR Isaiah McKenzie out of the pecking order. We'll see if Beasley can get activated from the practice squad first, so most all Fantasy GMs will leave him on the waiver wire for now. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [SF - WR Deebo Samuel likely to miss at least three weeks]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter San Francisco 49ers WR [Deebo Samuel](=) (knee, ankle) will likely need about three weeks to recover from the knee and ankle injuries he suffered in Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There is a chance that Samuel can be back for the postseason. Even with QB Brock Purdy under center, the 49ers have designs on a deep playoff run. We'll see what Samuel's status is entering the final week of the regular season in a few weeks. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [BAL - RB J.K. Dobbins not all the way back yet]() Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley Baltimore Ravens RB [J.K. Dobbins](=) (knee) said he's not all the way back from a 2021 knee injury in which he tore the ACL, LCL, meniscus and hamstring. He underwent surgery in October to remove scar tissue hindering his flexion in the knee. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] He's not all the way back, but Dobbins tore up the Steelers' defense last Sunday in his first week of action with 120 yards on 15 carries. Dobbins will still work with RB Gus Edwards in a RBBC, but he's the lead back with the upside to finish with RB1 production on a weekly basis. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [LAR - WR Cooper Kupp unlikely to return in 2022](=) Source: Rams.com - Stu Jackson Los Angeles Rams WR [Cooper Kupp](=) (ankle) is unlikely to return this season, according to head coach Sean McVay on Tuesday, Dec. 13. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Another reminder of this lost season for the Rams. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [NYJ - Mike White optimistic about playing Week 15]() Source: The Associated Press - Dennis Waszak Jr. New York Jets QB [Mike White](=) (ribs) told reporters that he feels he is 'ready to roll' in Week 15 against the Detroit Lions. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] White showed off his toughness by taking a beating against the Bills in Week 14. He's preparing as if he's going to be available to start against the Lions. The Jets can turn back to QB Zach Wilson if White's game falters or if he's too injured to play. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [TEN - Kevin Hogan to Titans](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Free-agent QB Kevin Hogan (Texans) will sign to the Tennessee Titans' practice squad Tuesday, Dec. 13. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Titans released Hogan back in late April, but he's been with the team for several months before that. Hogan has played for quite a few teams in the league, and he gives the Titans veteran depth behind starting QB Ryan Tannehill and rookie backup QB Malik Willis. The Titans had to add another arm to the quarterback room after the Falcons signed QB Logan Woodside off their practice squad. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [DEN - RB Mike Boone hitting IR](=) Source: The Denver Post - Parker Gabriel Denver Broncos RB [Mike Boone](=) (ankle) is going on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 13, which will end his season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Boone was just back for a couple of weeks after spending part of the season on IR. Now, the Broncos will turn back to Devine Ozigbo as their no.3 back. With Boone out of action again, we could see a larger role for Marlon Mack behind starter Latavius Murray. [GB - Romeo Doubs confident about Week 15](=) Source: The Athletic - Matt Schneidman Green Bay Packers WR [Romeo Doubs](=) (ankle) told reporters Tuesday, Dec. 13, that he fully expects to play in Week 15 versus the Los Angeles Rams. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Doubs makes for a 'what the heck' flex against the Rams in Week 15. He's been out of action since Week 9, but his ankle injury is feeling much better. Doubs' return could slightly ding the numbers for fellow rookie WR Christian Watson. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [NYG - Daniel Bellinger nursing sore ribs](=) Source: 1 No Source New York Giants TE [Daniel Bellinger](=) (ribs) is 'pretty sore' (after the Week 14 game), head coach Brian Daboll said Monday, Dec. 14. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bellinger just got over his eye injury, and now he's got to deal with a ribs injury. That's going to come down to pain tolerance, so Bellinger is likely going to be limited in practice as he deals with this discomfort. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [PIT - Kenny Pickett in concussion protocol]( Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac Pittsburgh Steelers QB [Kenny Pickett](=) (concussion) was placed in the league's concussion protocol Tuesday, Dec. 13. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is the second concussion of the year for the rookie quarterback. His long-term health is much more important than the Steelers' lost season. We'll see QB Mitchell Trubisky as the starter if Pickett has to miss more time. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [BAL - QB Tyler Huntley on the field Tuesday](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley Baltimore Ravens QB [Tyler Huntley](=) (concussion) was spotted on the field during the portion of practice open to the media Tuesday, Dec. 13. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lamar Jackson (knee) is likely to miss Week 15 against the Bengals. Huntley is on track to play, but he first needs to clear the league's concussion protocol. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [CHI - RB Khalil Herbert on track for Week 16]( Source: 670 The Score - Chris Emma Chicago Bears RB [Khalil Herbert](=) (hip) is expected to be designated for return from the Reserve/Injured list following the team's Week 15 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to head coach Matt Eberflus.'He's getting ready to go. He's been hitting his max speeds. His jumps look good, and the power in his legs look great. So, we're excited about that,' Eberflus said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If you've got the bench space, add Herbert now for later in the fantasy playoffs. Herbert will cut into the snaps for RB David Montgomery, and he's talented enough to be a flex option even though he'll be splitting time. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [CIN - WR Tee Higgins nursing hamstring injury](=) Source: NFL.com Cincinnati Bengals WR [Tee Higgins](=) (hamstring) is considered day to day after leaving the Week 14 game against the Cleveland Browns, head coach Zac Taylor said Monday, Dec. 12. 'We'll see where he's at on Wednesday,' Taylor said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hamstring injuries are always tricky to deal with. We'll see if Higgins is out there against the Buccaneers in Week 15. Fantasy GMs are going to have to wait for practice reports during the week, but have other options at the ready. The Bengals are already dealing with an injury to WR Tyler Boyd (finger) which will keep him out of Week 15. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [GB - RB Aaron Jones gets some work in Tuesday](=) Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky Green Bay Packers RB [Aaron Jones](=) (shin) took part in practice Tuesday, Dec. 13. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's a good sign for Jones' availability in Week 15. Coming out of the bye week and facing the Rams, Jones could post RB1 numbers for Fantasy GMs. Let's double back and make sure he continues to practice as the week goes on. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [MIA - WR Tyreek Hill to get treatment Tuesday](=) Source: 1 No Source Miami Dolphins WR [Tyreek Hill](=) (ankle) will get treatment Tuesday, Dec. 13 for the ankle injury he suffered in Week 14 against the Los Angeles Chargers, but it is believed to be an injury Hill can work through, head coach Mike McDaniel said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hill and the Dolphins go up against the Bills on Saturday in Week 15. That gives him a smaller window to get healthy, but it sounds like with treatment we'll see Hill in a pivotal game for the Dolphins this weekend. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [LAR - QB Baker Mayfield expected to start Week 15]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Los Angeles Rams QB [Baker Mayfield](=) is expected to start in Week 15 against the Green Bay Packers with QB [John Wolford](=) (neck) expected to miss the game Monday, Dec. 19. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No surprise here. Mayfield got the Rams all fired up last week with a win over the Raiders on a last-second touchdown throw. It may not be as fun as that, but with Mayfield under center, it will be interesting. He's a streaming option for Fantasy GMs out there.
