[Footballguys Email Updates](=) [Go PRO]( | [View Online](=) [Unsubscribe]( | [Sign Up]() [Footballguys.com](=)Daily Email Update • Vol. 24, #168 • Sep. 24th[,](=) 2022 --------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks To Our Sponsor, [Footballguys Premium Subscriptions]() Howdy {NAME}, We've got an awesome slate of games today and we can't wait. The big question today is, "Will Justin Herbert play?". It's a 4:05 PM ET start in Los Angeles so we likely won't have official word until later in the day. So it's likely we'll have to make a guess as we set lineups for the early games. Here's the latest from Footballguys resident MD, Dr. Jene Bramel. This is part of the bi-weekly injury rundown from Dr. Bramel available to Footballguys Premium Subscribers. [Get full access here and sign up today.]( Here's how Dr. Bramel sees it: "Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri - DNP "Herbert has a painful rib cartilage injury. He told reporters he felt good throwing during Thursday's practice and wouldn't decide on his status until before game time. "However, Herbert did not throw or practice on Friday and Chase Daniel took all the first-team reps. Brandon Staley told reporters Herbert's missed Friday workout was part of the plan. That seems unlikely. It's much more likely that Herbert's Thursday workout wasn't as reassuring as hoped. "Prior to Herbert's comments to the media on Friday, betting markets shifted aggressively toward the Jaguars. Previously a touchdown favorite, the line quickly moved four points toward the Jaguars during the Chargers' Friday practice. Both factors are worrisome indicators for Herbert's chances of playing. "A pain-killing injection between Herbert's ribs and kevlar padding may allow him enough relief to play. Herbert may choose not to have an injection -- the Chargers' team doctor is currently defending a malpractice suit after a complication with a similar injection to Tyrod Taylor in 2019. "Even with an injection, this injury will be difficult to manage throughout the game. All rotational movements will be affected and in-game aggravations are possible. Los Angeles declared starting center Corey Linsley out with a knee injury, which won't make the team any more comfortable allowing Herbert to play. "The Chargers haven't ruled Herbert out but the line movement in the betting market is a clear indication that sharp bettors believe Herbert will not play." [Sign up here]( and get full access today. [LAC - QB Justin Herbert unsure if he'll play]() Source: The Sporting Tribune - Fernando Ramirez Los Angeles Chargers QB [Justin Herbert](=) (ribs) is unsure if he'll play in Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. 'That decision will be made Sunday,' Herbert said on Friday, Sept. 23. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It sounds like Herbert is declaring himself a 'game time decision' for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. If he doesn't play, the Chargers turn to veteran Chase Daniel as their starter this weekend. Fantasy GMs need to have other options at the ready. It's a 4:05 PM kickoff in Los Angeles so it's possible we may not have official word until about 2:35 Sunday. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [LVR - RB Josh Jacobs traveling to Tennessee]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Updating a previous report, Las Vegas Raiders RB [Josh Jacobs](=) (illness) is traveling to Tennessee for the Week 3 game against the Titans but remains listed as questionable. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There was confusion with Jacobs as he reportedly did not travel with the full team on Friday. He made the trip Saturday but still remains questionable to play. Fortunately for fantasy GM's, it's a 1:00 PM kickoff in Nashville so we should have official word around 11:30 AM Sunday. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [TB - WR Cole Beasley elevated for Week 3](=) Source: Buccaneers.com - Scott Smith Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Cole Beasley and OG John Molchon have been elevated from the practice squad for Week 3, the team announced on Saturday, Sept. 24. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That didn't take long. Beasley is a seasoned veteran who just signed with the Buccaneers earlier in the week. Now, he's called up to the active roster and could be in for some targets in Week 3 against the Packers. The Buccaneers have WR Mike Evans suspended, with WRs Chris Godwin, Julio Jones, and Russell Gage all banged up to varying degrees. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [DEN - DEN elevates two for Week 3](=) Source: DenverBroncos.com - Ben Swanson Denver Broncos DE Jonathan Harris and WR [Kendall Hinton](=) have been elevated from the practice squad for Week 3, the team announced on Saturday, Sept. 24. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] With Hinton elevated, one has to wonder about the status of Jerry Jeudy for Sunday night. Fantasy GMs who may have considered Jeudy should have other options at the ready. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [GB - WR Sammy Watkins lands on IR]() Source: Packers.com Green Bay Packers WR [Sammy Watkins](=) (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve on Saturday, Sept. 24, due to an unspecified hamstring injury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Packers' wide receiver woes continue. Watkins had six catches in two games, and he is coming off a three-catch, 93-yard performance in Week 2 against the Bears. Now on IR, QB Aaron Rodgers will turn to rookie Christian Watson even more. Allen Lazard remains the team's top wide receiver, but it's not a great group at this time. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [LAR - WR Van Jefferson lands on IR]( Source: Rams.com Los Angeles Rams WR Van Jefferson (knee) was placed on injured reserve on Saturday, Sept. 24. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jefferson will now miss a minimum of the next four games. Ben Skowronek takes over as the no.3 for the Rams in his absence. We'll see how quickly Jefferson can work back into the mix when he's back at full strength. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [BAL - TE Mark Andrews keeps producing]() Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley Baltimore Ravens TE [Mark Andrews](=) has at least 50 receiving yards in 11 consecutive games, tied for the second-longest active streak in the NFL, [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Andrews is a security blanket for QB Lamar Jackson, and he's one of the best tight ends in the league. He will continue to burn coverage over the middle, and Jackson looks for him often near pay dirt. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [CIN - Big plays eluding Ja'Marr Chase]() Source: ESPN.com - Ben Baby Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase has not had a reception of 25 yards or more in three straight games and in five of his last six games overall. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Don't you worry about Chase and the big plays. His time will come, and the Bengals will work to get him free on some of those explosive routes. Chase also has the speed and elusiveness to turn short passes into long gains. [NYJ - RB Michael Carter high on usage]() Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports New York Jets RB [Michael Carter](=) has 17 rushes for 83 yards and 12 catches for 67 yards through the first two games. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We love rookie RB Breece Hall, but Carter is a good player and he's not going to fade into the background. The Jets are falling behind in games, so that means Carter is there to work as a change-of-pace back. He's got flex appeal on a weekly basis. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [LAC - RB Austin Ekeler has torched Jags]() Source: ESPN.com - Lindsey Thiry Los Angeles Chargers RB [Austin Ekeler](=) faces the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3, and in two previous meetings with Jacksonville, he has compiled 332 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns while averaging 12.9 yards per touch. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Jaguars need to find an answer for Ekeler. The rest of the league does too, but the Chargers' star running back seems to go off every time he faces Jacksonville. The Chargers could use a 'W' after losing to the Chiefs in Week 2, but the Jaguars may put up more of a fight than some think. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [TB - RB Leonard Fournette ready to roll?]( Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB [Leonard Fournette](=) (hamstring) has 'been fine' despite being limited in practice the past two weeks with a hamstring injury, according to head coach Todd Bowles, and Bowles said he isn't concerned about Fournette's status heading into the Week 3 game against the Green Bay Packers. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is the same thing we saw last week with Fournette. He'll be limited in practice and deemed 'questionable' but he will play on Sunday. Against a Packers rush defense that needs work, Fournette should thrive and post RB1 numbers in Week 3. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [NYJ - Garrett Wilson drawing prime targets]() Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates New York Jets WR [Garrett Wilson](=) currently leads the NFL with eight targets in the red zone. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Joe Flacco may not be 'elite' but he sure does know how to pepper Wilson with passes near pay dirt. So long as Flacco is the starter, and the Jets fall behind in games, Wilson should continue to get these kind of looks. When Zach Wilson (knee) gets on the field, all bets are off. We'll have to see what kind of chemistry Wilson can build with his young quarterback. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [DEN - RB Javonte Williams leads in RB targets]() Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports Denver Broncos RB [Javonte Williams](=) leads all running backs with 16 targets through two games. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That's what happens when you have 11 receptions in the season opener. Williams is a power back, and he's a capable receiver, but we'd like to see the Broncos feature him more as a runner. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [JAX - RB James Robinson performing like an RB1]() Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports Jacksonville Jaguars RB [James Robinson](=) is the RB8 in PPR leagues in fantasy points after two games. Robinson has 34 rushes for 130 yards and two touchdowns. He also has three catches for 17 yards and a score. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's his backfield ladies and gentlemen. Robinson came back from his Achilles' injury with a vengeance, and he's quieted any question marks about his status. Robinson has also relegated 2021 first-round pick Travis Etienne to strictly a backup. After two games, Etienne is getting about half the touches that Robinson gets. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [DAL - TE Dalton Schultz questionable for Week 3]( Source: The Dallas Morning News - David Moore Dallas Cowboys TE [Dalton Schultz](=) (knee) was limited in practice on Saturday, Sept. 24, and is listed as questionable for Week 3. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Cowboys play on Monday night, and Schultz's status is up in the air. Fantasy GMs shouldn't be counting on him to play in Week 3 despite him being limited on Saturday and being deemed as questionable. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [DAL - WR Michael Gallup questionable for Week 3]( Source: The Dallas Morning News - David Moore Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup was a full participant in practice on Saturday, Sept. 24, but is listed as questionable for Week 3. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The idea was to have Gallup ready for Week 3. He could play on Monday night, but the Cowboys may have him on a snap count to ease him back into action. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
