[] INSIDE THIS ISSUE 1. [SEA - RB Rashaad Penny set up for huge workload?](#1) 2. [CHI - Equanimeous St. Brown in line for WR4 spot?](#2) 3. [CHI - RB Khalil Herbert locked into role](#3) 4. [LVR - Richie Incognito calls it a career](#4) 5. [CIN - S Jessie Bates unlikely to report for camp?](#5) 6. [KC - Orlando Brown Jr. turns down five-year extension](#6) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [SEA - RB Rashaad Penny set up for huge workload?]( Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny will be the primary back and has a realistic path to '20 carries or so a game' if Chris Carson (neck) is unable to play in 2022, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is believable, and makes Penny's ADP look out of whack as it is close or even below Walker's. Penny's inability to stay healthy and the cupcake nature of the opponents he rung up yards against in meaningless games still makes us need to see Penny stay on the field and be productive to believe it. Taking both backs is inexpensive enough to capture this backfield and a weekly starter if Penny is the clear lead back when healthy, but Buffalo's backfield can be captured at a similar price and they have a much better offense, even if they aren't committed to the run. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [CHI - Equanimeous St. Brown in line for WR4 spot?]( Source: BearsWire - Alyssa Barbieri Chicago Bears WR Equanimeous St. Brown 'appears to be in line' for the No. 4 receiver spot, according to Alyssa Barbieri of BearsWire. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is more an indictment of the Bears depth chart at wide receiver than a reason to be excited about St. Brown, who hung on the roster but failed to make an impact in Green Bay. Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy might feel like there was some untapped potential since he was in the building with St. Brown for three of the receiver's four years. The Bears remain a candidate to claim receiver(s) another team releases before the season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CHI - RB Khalil Herbert locked into role]( Source: BearsWire - Alyssa Barbieri Chicago Bears RB Khalil Herbert is the only running back outside of RB David Montgomery who is locked into a 'key role' in the Chicago running attack, according to Alyssa Barbieri of BearsWire. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bears are going to aim to be run-heavy, although game scripts may keep them from doing that well into the second halves of games. Herbert was at least Montgomery's equal running the ball last year, and a new regime could see him as deserving of more work than he got last year, especially with Montgomery hitting free agency next year and Herbert in only the second year of a four-year rookie deal. [LVR - Richie Incognito calls it a career]( Source: Raiders.com Las Vegas Raiders OG Richie Incognito announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday, July 15. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's impossible to sum up Incognito's career. He'll be remembered for his tough play on the offensive line over a decade and a half and coming back from multiple absences from the game, but also his central role in the Jonathan Martin scandal and various on and off-field incidents that portray him as unstable. Hopefully he finds some peace in his life after football. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [CIN - S Jessie Bates unlikely to report for camp?](=) Source: CBS Sports HQ - Josina Anderson Cincinnati Bengals S Jessie Bates, who received the franchise tag from the team in March, reportedly has no intention of playing on the franchise tag or reporting to training camp, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bates has been a stalwart part of the defense during the team rebuild, so his unhappiness with the team's unwillingness to commit to him at the level his play merits is warranted. The Bengals are still one of the more frugal organizations, so consider this a preview of how it may go when Tee Higgins' rookie contract is up in two years. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [KC - Orlando Brown Jr. turns down five-year extension]() Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo Kansas City Chiefs OT Orlando Brown Jr. was reportedly offered a contract extension worth $91 million over the first five seasons - a deal that would have averaged $18.2 million per year and placed him eighth among offensive tackles - but turned it down, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is below what he is worth, so his camp was probably right to turn it down. Placing him eighth at his position when not all of those contracts were signed during this offseason is not quite accurate as a description of the quality of the contract. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
