Congrats to the Packers and Bills on great seasons. We catch our breath a bit and start scheming for the Big Game. Can't wait. In the meantime, some News and Notes for you. Let's go. [PIT - Pittsburgh settles on Matt Canada to run offense](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks coach Matt Canada is reportedly finalizing a deal with the team to become the offensive coordinator Monday, Jan. 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Canada has worked in the college ranks for years and will get a larger role with the Steelers. His fresh perspective could help jump-start the Steelers offense. Canada will be working with an aging Ben Roethlisberger, but having young wide receivers like Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson and James Washington should help. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [DET - RB Duce Staley hired in Detroit]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley was hired as assistant head coach/running backs for the Detroit Lions Monday, Jan. 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Dan Campbell, new Lions head coach, is putting together a helluva staff. Former Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn has signed on as the offensive coordinator, and now Staley comes on board to help run the offense and the backfield. Staley has been thought of as a potential head coach but was passed over with the Eagles. Now, he'll join a new staff and a new team to further advance his career. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [LAC - Joe Lombardi tabbed to run LAC offense](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints quarterbacks coach Joe Lombardi agreed to terms to become the new offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, Jan. 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lombardi has been a rising star in coaching circles over the last five years with the Saints. He'll be in charge of running an offense with potential superstar quarterback Justin Herbert. His relationship with Herbert will be key, but Lombardi has learned a lot working with Drew Brees and Matthew Stafford (for one year) before that. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [BAL - QB Lamar Jackson to begin contract talks](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley Baltimore Ravens QB [Lamar Jackson](=) could sign an extension this offseason, according to general manager Eric DeCosta, who will begin talks with Jackson in 10 days. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That's been expected for quite some time. The work to get Jackson signed will likely go to the summer. He will be one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league when his new contract is in place. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [KC - Eric Fisher out](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Kansas City Chiefs OT Eric Fisher (Achilles') suffered a torn Achilles' in the AFC Championship game, and he'll miss the rest of the season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bad news for the Chiefs as they're headed for the Super Bowl. Fisher will miss most of the offseason recovering from his injury and his availability for the start of the 2021 regular season is in doubt. [BAL - Two may compete for No. 2 QB job](=) Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec Baltimore Ravens QB [Tyler Huntley](=) and [Trace McSorley](=) may compete for the No. 2 quarterback job during training camp, according to general manager Eric DeCosta. DeCosta did not rule out the possibility of signing a veteran quarterback at some point. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Huntley was thrust into action in the playoffs when Lamar Jackson was hurt and showed the game is not too big for him. Both quarterbacks are mobile and can damage a defense with their legs. We'll see how that competition shakes out in training camp next season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [GB - Ten sign futures deals with Green Bay]( Source: Packers.com Free-agent LBs Tipa Galeai and De'Jon Harris, OG Zack Johnson, TE [Isaac Nauta](=), DLs Willington Previlon and Anthony Rush, RBs Mike Weber and [Dexter Williams](=), CB Stanford Samuels and P Ryan Winslow signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Green Bay Packers on Monday, Jan. 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Weber and Williams are players to watch in super deep dynasty formats. Partly because of their skill but partly because the Packers running back room is going to look different in 2021. Both Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are set to be unrestricted free agents this offseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [BAL - TE Mark Andrews may receive extension](=) Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec Baltimore Ravens TE [Mark Andrews](=) is one of the players the team will try to sign to a contract extension, according to general manager Eric DeCosta. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That sounds about right. Andrews, a third-round pick out of Oklahoma in the 2018 NFL draft, is not only a favorite target of QB Lamar Jackson but he's one of the best tight ends in the game. Heading into a contract year in 2021, Andrews could get paid sooner rather than later in a move that would ultimately save the Ravens money so long as Andrews continues to play at a high level. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [CAR - Two Carolina assistants to miss Senior Bowl]( Source: Charlotte Observer - Jonathan Alexander Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady and linebackers coach Mike Siravo will not make the trip to the Senior Bowl in Mobile (Ala.) due to issues related to COVID-19, according to a team spokesperson. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Senior Bowl is happening this week in Mobile, AL with the Panthers and Dolphins coaching staffs in place to coach the teams. Every team in the league will be sending as many scouts as possible, although there will be teams who send fewer scouts due to COVID-19. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [BUF - WR Cole Beasley played with serious leg injury](=) Source: NFL Network - Kim Jones Buffalo Bills WR [Cole Beasley](=) (leg) told reporters Monday, Jan. 25, that he broke his fibula in Week 16 but that it wasn't a full break. He also added that he won't need surgery. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No surprise here. Anyone who watched Beasley during the playoffs could tell that he wasn't quite himself. It's good news he doesn't need surgery, so with some rest we'll see him come back as a favorite target of QB Josh Allen once again in 2021. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
