[ARI - Arizona adds WR Michael Crabtree]( Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams Free-agent WR [Michael Crabtree]( (Ravens) signed with the Arizona Cardinals Monday, Aug. 5, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's an ...interesting move for the Cardinals. Crabtree should know the Texas Tech concepts that Kliff Kingsbury is bringing to the NFL this year as both of them were Red Raiders in college. Now 32-years old, Crabtree may not have much left in the tank and is not a lock for the 53-man roster. The Cardinals have Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk at the top of the depth chart. Crabtree will compete with the rookie trio of KeeSean Johnson, Hakeem Butler and Andy Isabella to establish a pecking order. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [IND - Indy scoops up D'Onta Foreman]() Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson Free-agent RB D'Onta Foreman (Texans) was claimed off waivers by the Indianapolis Colts on Monday, Aug. 5. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Reports indicate the Texans were not happy with Foreman's work habits, so they let him go and the Colts quickly add the power runner. Foreman may work as the primary ball-carrier behind Marlon Mack. Nyheim Hines will work as the change-of-pace back for the Colts once again this year. Foreman would only have fantasy value if Mack gets banged up...provided he impresses his new team and beats out guys like Jordan Wilkins and Jonathan Williams for the backup role. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [DAL - TE Rico Gathers cut](=) Source: DallasCowboys.com - Nick Eatman Dallas Cowboys TE [Rico Gathers]( was waived Monday, Aug. 5. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gathers is a converted basketball player who was trying to make his way with the Cowboys as a tight end. He's had little impact during the regular season but might be able to latch on somewhere else as a developmental player. Gathers is suspended for the first game of the 2019 season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [PHI - RB Miles Sanders making a strong impression](=) Source: NJ.com - Zack Rosenblatt Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders has received 'many' of reps with the first-team and 'easily been the most impressive runner on the team' through 10 training camp practices, according to Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com. Rosenblatt added that while he expects Sanders to become the team's No. 1 running back sooner than later, he needs to show improvement as a pass-catcher, pass protector and with his ball security. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Sanders missed a lot of time this offseason with a hamstring injury, but the talent has always been obvious. He runs with good burst and knows how to create his own space with quickness and speed. Sanders will be the 'lightning' to the 'thunder' provided by No. 1 RB Jordan Howard. Let's see how the team splits things up later in the preseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [PHI - RB Jordan Howard to play significant role](=) Source: NJ.com - Zack Rosenblatt Philadelphia Eagles RB [Jordan Howard]( has been the top option in short-yardage and goal-line situations during training camp and has impressed the team with his ability to catch the ball and hold up in pass protection, according to comments made by offensive coordinator Mike Groh.'(Howard has) done a really nice job both in catching the ball and in the protection. He's been all over his protection. Done a really good job with that, been sound and firm in protection allowing our quarterbacks to step up in the pocket and make the throws down the field,' Groh said of Howard. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Howard is the lead back for the Eagles...for now. He's a power back who can grind down an opponent but the team has better options as pass-catching backs like rookie Miles Sanders. We'll see how this backfield splits reps in the preseason. Howard has a current ADP of RB37 (8.02) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [MIA - RB Kenyan Drake stands out in practice]() Source: Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly Miami Dolphins RB [Kenyan Drake]( had the best day of practice Monday, Aug. 5, according to Sun-Sentinel writer Omar Kelly. Drake was ranked No. 1 in a list of three performers to excel, with Kelly citing Drake being 'elusive all day in space.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Drake is having a solid camp, but it's clear that the Dolphins want a committee with him and Kalen Ballage as the top two backs. Mark Walton, a very good third down back, is also having a strong camp and will take away some passing down opportunities. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [ARI - WR KeeSean Johnson set to start?]( Source: The Athletic - Scott Bordow Arizona Cardinals WR KeeSean Johnson is one of the 'clear' top-three receivers, according to Scott Bordow of The Athletic. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This continues a very strong summer from Johnson. He is taking to the offense quickly and should be on your late round PPR sleeper list. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [IND - Keith Ford let go](=) Source: Colts.com Indianapolis Colts RB [Keith Ford]( was waived Monday, Aug. 5. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Colts had to free up some room on the roster with the addition of D'Onta Foreman. Ford was picked up by the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M last year. He spent most of the 2018 season on their practice squad but did get on the active roster for a couple of games at the end of the year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [NE - QB Tom Brady contract update](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport New England Patriots QB [Tom Brady]('s new two-year contract extension includes a provision that does not allow the team to use the franchise or transition tag on him for the 2020 season, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Also, the final two years of Brady's deal will automatically void on the last day of the 2019 league year, allowing him to become a free agent when the 2020 league year officially begins in early March. Brady is 42-years old and the Patriots need to start thinking about the future without him. He is not quite the player he used to be, but Brady can still make the Patriots one of the best in the league. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [CHI - TE Trey Burton could sit out preseason]( Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears TE [Trey Burton]( (hernia) has no timeline for a return to practice as of Monday, Aug. 5, and it wouldn't be a 'great surprise' if the Bears held him out for the entire preseason in order to have him ready for Week 1 versus the Green Bay Packers, according to Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bears coach Matt Nagy insists that Burton has not had any setbacks in his recovery from hernia surgery. Nagy says 'We need him for Week 1.' That's why the Bears are going to keep him out of the preseason. Until we hear something different, it looks like Fantasy GMs can target Burton for a return in the season opener. Burton has low-end TE1 upside with a current ADP of TE16 (13.06) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [ARI - Justin Pugh to miss a couple of weeks]( Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Darin Gantt Arizona Cardinals OG Justin Pugh (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury during a scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 3, and will be sidelined at least a 'couple of weeks,' according to Pro Football Talk's Darin Gantt. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Pugh is one of the best players on the Cardinals line, so this hurts. He had trouble staying healthy last year too. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [BUF - LaAdrian Waddle may be lost for season]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Buffalo Bills OT LaAdrian Waddle (quadriceps) suffered a torn quadriceps muscle, and he's likely lost for the season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bills line has four injured players and it hasn't even been settled which five will play and which positions. New offensive line coach Bobby Johnson has his work cut out for him. Waddle projected as at least a solid swing tackle for this team, and maybe good enough to put second-round pick Cody Ford at guard instead of right tackle. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [CHI - WR Riley Ridley returns]() Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs Chicago Bears WR Riley Ridley (hamstring) returned to practice Monday, Aug. 5, after missing more than a week with a hamstring injury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ridley needs to have a strong rest of camp and preseason to be anything but a healthy scratch during the season. If he aggravates the hamstring, he's likely to end up on injured reserve because of the quality of wide receiver group in Chicago. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [CHI - TE Trey Burton still out]() Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs Chicago Bears TE [Trey Burton]( (undisclosed) remains out of practice Monday, Aug. 5. He was out Friday, Aug. 2, due to a planned day off and didn't practice the following day either. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The team said he didn't have a setback, but we can't rule that out until he returns to the field. Until then, more chances for Adam Shaheen to impress, assuming he can stay healthy, which hasn't been his forte. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [TB - OLB Lavonte David has surgery]( Source: Buccaneers.com - Scott Smith Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Lavonte David (knee) had surgery to address a torn meniscus in his left knee Monday, Aug. 5, but he's not in danger of missing the regular season opener. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This wasn't just irritation from playing on turf. David could be less than 100% for an opener against the 49ers and then the Bucs play on a Thursday against the Panthers, so David's ability to be ready for two games in quick succession will be tested. The Bucs defense can't afford to lose anyone else. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [BAL - Alex Lewis released]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Baltimore Ravens OT Alex Lewis was released Monday, Aug. 5. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lewis was considered a favorite to win a left guard job that was up for grabs. The team apparently did not like that he rehabbed a shoulder injury away from them. Fourth round pick Ben Powers, along with James Hurst and Jermaine Elumeunor will battle for the job now. Lewis will surely end up on a roster somewhere soon. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [ARI - WR Hakeem Butler has work to do]( Source: The Athletic - Scott Bordow Arizona Cardinals WR Hakeem Butler has had problems 'holding onto the ball' during training camp, according to Scott Bordow of The Athletic. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Butler has alternated spectacular plays and drops on routine passes. He has to become more consistent to get playing time, but the hope is that the lapses will lessen as he becomes more experienced. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [ARI - WR Andy Isabella battling drops]( Source: The Athletic - Scott Bordow Arizona Cardinals WR Andy Isabella has 'dropped too many passes' so far during training camp, according to Scott Bordow of The Athletic. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Isabella was considered a favorite to get the most snaps of the rookie wideouts in Arizona because he was the highest pick, but he hasn't had a good summer. His speed is still very exciting and a big play waiting to happen, but he might be slow to develop in a new offensive scheme.
