But, I read an article in the New York Times awhile ago entitled "[A Life Beyond 'Do What You Love']" that made me re-think how we define "loving" our jobs. It highlighted a really important reminder that having a job you love is not the only way to define success or happiness. Also, there is more than one way to love your job! Which is important to remember, because almost everyone at some point in their lives will have had a job we didn't like but kept doing for a good reasons (such as paying bills!). Shouldn't we be proud of ourselves for being responsible and doing well even if we didn't enjoy it all that much? Absolutely. Even if the job itself isn't all that great, we can incorporate happiness and value into our jobs by looking at its tangential benefits, even if it's impossible to make it the main focus. For me, [we hear every day from users who have used work flexibility as one way to find enjoyment in a job]. If you can have a job that gives you more flexibility to enjoy your life outside of work even if you don't love the actual day-to-day work you do, you can find more enjoyment for your job because it helps you meet that end goal.
