Why the Recession Fears are Overblown

Headlines have been talking about a U.S. recession for months. The pullback in stocks earlier this year was largely related to recession fears. But the recession didn't come. The economy is expanding. Recent data shows that the economy is growing at a slowed but positive pace. Unemployment is low and layoffs are near record lows. Companies are hiring because profit margins are still relatively high across the board. 528,000 jobs were added to the economy in July. With unemployment low, retail sales picked up, and U.S. manufacturing has bounced back. Domestic industrial growth should help to protect businesses from supply chain issues.
