Didn't see that one coming. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Sometimes I like to share emails I get from people on my list. Today is one of those days. A man who’s name I’ll not share sent me this: “I will not be following if you cannot be thoughtful enough of others to not throw the F word around as if it is acceptable public discourse.  The moral failures of Americans will be the downfall of this nation in the next few years.” Well, fuck. Apparently I’m contributing to the moral failure of Americans. Here’s the thing…jokes aside. I’m sure the dude who emailed me is a good guy. He meant well. Him and I probably share quite a few of the same viewpoints of the world. But I swear. And he doesn’t. And he can’t see past our difference to learn from me. He obviously opted in to my email list because he wanted to learn from me. Otherwise he wouldn’t have signed up. Yet he’s allowing the use of a single word to affect his future. He’s unwilling to move past the attached value of a word in order to move himself forward in his life. People swear. Almost all of them. I’m one of those people. I’m also one of the best in the world at helping people make more money from email. So the question is what matters more to you? Maybe for the lad above it was his moral high ground to shun my teachings because of my use of the F word. But maybe it would serve him (and a lot more people in this world) to understand that words only have the power YOU give them. This current world full of easily offended people is missing one key factor of reality: YOU CHOOSE TO BE OFFENDED. Getting offended is a choice. (Especially things that aren’t personal attacks on your character.) And there’s one other piece I really feel I need to say: Getting offended takes too much fucking energy. We have a certain amount of energy to give to things each day. Every bit of energy you give towards being offended is energy that could’ve gone towards something useful. Imagine if instead of writing an email about my moral failings cuz I say fuck sometimes…he had instead used that time to learn how to find email clients. It’s reallllll hard to offend me for two reasons. 1. I don’t want to waste my energy on things that don’t matter. Especially when I can control my response. 2. Almost everything everyone says is just a reflection of their own internal environment and rarely has anything to do with me (or you). Most angry emails come from people who are suffering from something unrelated to you on that day. You just happen to be the victim of their rage in that moment. Or their sadness. But choosing to take it in a become a victim is up to YOU. Getting offended is a choice. Seeing yourself as a victim is a choice. Living a life of freedom is a choice. Choose the thing you want. Take personal responsibility for your life and don’t blame the world for shit that you can change yourself. If you really want to change America that’s what it starts with…each individual taking care of their own shit before they go throwing stones in glass houses. That’s all for now.
