According to the latest data, more than half of these survivors are unable to afford basic necessities such as food and medicine. This deeply troubling situation is made even worse by the loneliness and low quality of life that many of these survivors endure, particularly since the onset of the war. Here are some of the most concerning findings from the report: - Over 50% of Holocaust survivors are unable to leave their homes without assistance. - 36% of survivors require significant help to purchase food, and over a quarter struggle to obtain food due to financial or mobility difficulties. - Nearly 40% of survivors need help with eye exams and glasses, and about 33% require assistance with dental treatments. - A quarter of respondents had to forgo medical tests or treatments, and 7.6% had to give up on essential medications. - More than a third of Holocaust survivors live completely alone, and 41% report feeling lonely to some extent or to a great extent. - 50% of survivors struggle to cover their monthly household expenses, with many having to give up on basic needs like cleaning products, personal hygiene items, and even necessary medical aids.
