This day, symbolizing the liberation and Israeli sovereignty of Jerusalem, was marked with joy and reflection. Our volunteers organized a variety of activities for the elderly. They listened to lectures and stories about the rich heritage of Jerusalem, followed by a public singing session featuring beloved songs about the city. One of our Holocaust survivors, Elimelech, aged 93, shared his heartfelt sentiments, saying, “The event especially moving. The people of Israel are going through very difficult times. I hope we come out of this stronger. You give us hope and a taste of life. Thank you to all the Feed Israel donors.” As we reflect on the spirit of Jerusalem Day, it’s important to remember the ongoing struggles faced by many in our community. Due to the ongoing conflict, around 330,000 Israelis have been displaced from their homes. Most of these individuals are from the south, with some from the north, forced to leave everything behind. At Feed Israel, we are committed to supporting these displaced families. Our efforts include distributing essential supplies, offering medical care, and providing mental health support. With the festival of Shavuot coming up next week, our volunteers organized a baking workshop where the elderly prepared cheesecakes, cookies, and desserts. The baked goods, along with boxes of basic food items including vegetables, meat, and fish, were distributed to displaced Holocaust survivors to lift their spirits and improve their situation.
