_______________________= _ Hey everyone hope your week's= been well. Happy Leap Day tom= orrow to those who celebrate. Just wanted to share something that stu= ck in my mind for awhile - it's too bad the Gregorian Calendar wasn't desig= ned with 12 30-day months and a 5 or 6 day holiday tacked on at the end, li= ke [Saturnalia](3D"). But = we've got what we've got. Fun fact - when the Gregorian Calendar went= into effect in 1582 they had to delete 10 days. Thursday Oct 4th was= followed by Friday Oct 15th. And also initially the Catholic Church = was the only one who followed it. Wikipedia says Britain waited to sw= itch to it until 1752 because they didn't like that the calendar was Cathol= ic. I was told in school this kicked off riots but that doesn't appea= r to have actually happened. Can't imagine having political and relig= ious disputes over calendars but I guess anything can be made into a politi= cal dispute. Thursday 4pm est = it's the [Fark News Livestream](3D".=)! No= tNewsletterMonkey wants me to mention that if you can't watch it l= ive, the video stays up for two weeks after if you want to check it out.&nb= sp; Also works as a podcast most of the time if you have an afternoon commu= te. It's strangely a little thin out there this week, but last week T= hursday came through big time and I'm hopeful it will do so again.
Soon (soon)

Another fun time on the Quiz this week, where we learned = that some things you inherit to use, and some things you inherit to sit on = the shelf. On the Quiz itself, coscausticevil came out on = top with a ridiculous 1041, followed by Tin Can Sailor= > in second with 1013, maddogdelta made third with 999, kona came in fourth with 990. and Denjiro= ng> made it into the top five with 975. The hardest ques= tion on last week's Hard Quiz was about which company would have made you a= multi-millionaire right now had you spent $100 on their stock in 1994 inst= ead of a Furby, a flannel shirt, that Nirvana CD, and that hypercolor shirt= that worked for almost a month before it stopped changing colors. Only 43%= of quiztakers knew that Monster Beverages started as a juice company named= Hansen's, and still couldn't cut it as "Hansen National Corporation". Once= they embraced the world of caffeine, vitamin B12, and high fructose corn s= yrup their fortunes changed along with their name and they've become a powe= rhouse to rival Red Bull. The easiest question on last week's= Hard Quiz was about the 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Mo&iu= ml;se. 88% of quiztakers knew that neither Luxembourg nor Belgium have a pr= esident, so the answer was Haiti. It appears to the judge investigating the= assassination that this was the ultimate inside job that involved his wido= w, an ex-prime minister, and the chief of the national police, so be ready = for the Netflix "Making of a Murderer" season on this one coming soon. = ; The hardest question on last week's Easy Quiz was about Dolly Par= ton's new collaboration. Only 56% of quiztakers knew that she had cont= ributed her vocals and the hook from "9 to 5" to Pitbull's new track "Power= ful Women". It's good to see male artists realizing that feminism paysm and= a feminist collab with a cultural icon like Dolly is definitely good for b= usiness. The easiest question on last week's Easy Quiz was about Th= e Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company who specialized in punched cards i= n the first part of the 20th Century. 88% of quiztakers knew that Thomas Wa= tson, who was actually under indictment at the time for his role in antitru= st violations and extorting used cash register vendors, came to the re= alization that this was an absurdly stupid name for the business and change= d it to International Business Machines, or IBM. Interestingly, Thomas Wats= on is also the inspiration behind the name of Ken Jennings antagonist and w= riter of Fark keyword search terms Watson, and not Sherlock Holmes' doctor = buddy as is commonly believed. If you missed out last week, n= ow's a great time to [= catch up on the Fark Weird News Quiz](3D"https:/=) now that you know a few of the ans= wers. Congratulations once again to the winners, and we'll do it all again = on Friday. --------------------------------------------------------------- ([Fark.com](3D"") sent this newsletter emai= l to: {EMAIL}) To stop these emails, go to the Notifications tab of your [MyFark profile](3D"https:=) to change your subscription preferences.
