Comments thread: [(3D" Unsubscribe links are at the bottom of this message. =20 =20 ________________________ A message= from Drew Curtis: ________________________ Hey everyone hope your weeks been well.= pan> Kentucky wasn't in the path of e= ither the 2017 or the 2024 eclipse but Kentucky is also just a few hours dr= ive from both. So Monday morning we woke up super early and headed up= to Ohio to try to catch the eclipse. I wasn't super hopeful about th= e weather, the forecast had called for cloudy skies for days and it had bee= n raining steadily all last week. However, we figured it was still wo= rth a shot. So we headed up to Ohio to a friend's farm to try to catc= h it. As luck would have it, it was sorta cloudy but it was those wis= py high level clouds that you could still see the sun through. Amazin= gly the skies were clear for just the eclipse, then went straight back to b= eing cloudy again. I haven't seen the sun in two days. That's ok thou= gh it was out for the afternoon it needed to be. Thanks to Mr. Fuzzypaws for arranging [the eclipse Fark Party](3D") u= p in Buffalo / Delaware Park! We met him up there for a beerfest last summe= r but couldn't pull the kids out of school to make it all the way up there = for this one. Glad to see he got to see totality despite some cloud c= over. Holy f*cking sh*t indeed. As some of you are probably already aware, Fark turns 25 this y= ear. Seems like we should do a celebration or something. I'= m starting to work on initial plans this week and could use some input on t= hose. There's a [TotalFark thread](3D"https:=) up right now, discussing possible plans and id= eas - come join us there and we'll go over initial stuff. I think I'v= e got a good weekend and location picked out but I need to hear from TotalF= arkers about what they think. If you need a TotalFark account to join= the planning discussion, you can find one at [fark.com/totalfarksignup](3D" - this will be the first of many threads regarding the= upcoming Fark25 celebration. = This week 4pm Thursday it's the [Fark News Livestrea= m](=3D") with me and Dill, probably Christine, and unfortunately Lucky's out o= f commission for a bit so maybe a special guest or two! _________= _______________ End Drew transmission ________________________ Top = Interactions Some of the best interactions from the past wee= k. [Submit one!](3D"ht=) Thank you, Mr.= Fuzzypaws, for setting up the eclipse party! Fark Headlines of the Week A se= lection of some of the top headlines from last week. [On this day in history, in 1979, Anth= rax killed 62 in Russia, a tragic death toll which remained unbeaten by roc= k until Great White took the stage in 2003](3D") [Break out the fallen lawn chairs](3D") [7.4 magnitude earthquake strikes just off the coast of Taiwan.= Tsunami, aftershock and chip shortage warnings have been sounded](3D"=) [Article warns "eye syphilis= on the rise". On the Quiz itself, Newfadian came out on top with= a whopping 1043, followed by KRSESQ in second with a= nd even 1000 and bughunter in third with 993. Oliver Twisted made fourth with 979, and raukos= 7 rounds out the top five with 965. The hardest ques= tion on last week's Hard Quiz was about the Fairfax, VA police academy= and how the Chief of Police of Herndon, VA had a problem with his officers= ' graduation certificates. Only 35% of quiztakers knew that the academy's d= irector was a Chinese-American who signed the certificates using Chinese ch= aracters, as he has done for his entire life, and Herndon's police chief wa= sn't going to go learning Cantonese just to be able to read it. However, I'= d be willing to guess he'd be more than happy to have his officers tra= ined in Chinese police tactics. The easiest question on last = week's Hard Quiz was about the Japanese matsutake. 89% of quiztakers recogn= ized it as the world's most expensive mushroom, Fun fact: Japan has an inte= resting way of making sure imported matsutake mushrooms are easily identifi= able from the expensive domestic ones - all imported mushrooms must be wash= ed. The "real deal" that sell for upwards of $1000/lb, still have bits of t= he stuff mushrooms grow in all over them. The hardest questio= n on last week's Easy Quiz was about the tattoo that a 33-year-old Florida = Man decided to get one drunken night back in December, even though he didn'= t have the money to pay for it. Only 76% of quiztakers knew that Waffle Hou= se was based in Georgia. and definitely more of a proper tattoo for Florida= Man. I guess he can count his blessings that he was only convicted of pett= y theft and not subjected to the repo man. The easiest questi= on on last week's Easy Quiz was about Comerica Park's annual celebration of= Hawaiian shirts, aviator sunglasses, and thick mustaches. 96% of quiztaker= s knew that Detroit Tigers fans loved them some Magnum, P.I. And, I mean, w= ho doesn't? Besides, his look is far cheaper to attain than Miami Vice with= the sport coats with the sleeves rolled up and the Ferrari. = If you missed out last week, now's a great time to [catch up on the Fark Weird News Quiz](3D" now = that you know a few of the answers. Congratulations once again to the winne= rs, and we'll be doing it all again on Friday. --------------------------------------------------------------- ([Fark.com](3D"") sent this newsletter emai= l to: {EMAIL}) To stop these emails, go to the Notifications tab of your [MyFark profile](3D"https:=) to change your subscription preferences.
