As the father of a 10-year-old YouTube addict, I have often wondered how MrBeast’s massive media empire came to be. How can a regular guy hand out millions of dollars under the guise of philanthropy (and some lulz) and become the biggest celebrity among kids who have never seen middle school? Well, if this scathing report on MrBeast’s upcoming Amazon competition show — which will supposedly give $5 million to the winner — by [The New York Times]( is any indication, it’s by allegedly cutting a lot of corners and treating people badly. (For his part, MrBeast has blamed the issues on the CrowdStrike computer glitch.) Once thought of by tiny humans whose brains have not been fully formed as a paragon of kindness who’s seemingly too good for this world, MrBeast is in some trouble, and the backlash is in full force. Who could have seen this coming? What’s next: We’ll find out some influencers aren’t who they say they are? Here’s what to watch this week now that we’re not watching MrBeast. -Tim   Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!   SEASON 4 PREMIERES THURSDAY ON NETFLIX [The Umbrella Academy is closing for good]( [It’s the final season of Netflix’s dysfunctional superhero series, and everything has changed for the Brellies. At the end of The Umbrella Academy Season 3, the Hargreeves siblings lost their superpowers. It happened after their father, Reginald (Colm Feore), tried to reprogram the universe by extracting their bodily particles but was stopped by Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) — with whom he had struck a secret deal. We're expecting the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy to answer our burning questions, the biggest among them being: Will the Brellies get their powers back? -Kat Moon]( PREMIERES FRIDAY ON APPLE TV+ [Damon and Affleck reunite for The Instigators]( OK, it’s Matt and Casey, but it’s still a reunion, as Casey was also in Good Will Hunting. Ben’s brother (along with Chuck MacLean) wrote this film, so you already know a lot of what it’s about: A couple pals from Boston (obviously) embark on a heist to steal money from a corrupt politician, and things don’t go as planned. Yes, they go to Fenway. Hong Chau also stars as Damon’s character’s therapist who gets caught up in the getaway, and Doug Liman, who directed Damon in The Bourne Identity and also helmed the fun and dumb Roadhouse remake earlier this year, is behind the camera. [Reviews aren’t good]( but it’s squarely in Apple’s wheelhouse of propping up mid entertainment with big celebrities. SEASON 3 PREMIERES SUNDAY AT 9/8C ON HBO AND MAX [Industry is money]( AAfter two simmering seasons, Industry has quietly established itself as one of the best and most underrated shows on TV. Returning for its third season in a shiny new Sunday night time slot, it might just be time for the finance drama to get a well-deserved boost in viewership. The series picks up after that explosive finale, which saw Harper (Myha'la) eager to get back into the finance world after her unceremonious firing by Eric (Ken Leung), her boss/mentor/father figure. Back at Pierpoint, Eric, Yasmin (Marisa Abela), and Robert (Harry Lawtey) are figuring out whether Lumi, a new green tech company led by Sir Henry Muck (Kit Harington), will help or hurt their careers. As I [say in my review]( Season 3 is the best the show has ever been. -Allison Picurro WHAT TO WATCH AND WHERE TO WATCH IT [Everything you need to watch this month]( Our [Ultimate Guide for August]( is out, and it features more schedules than you probably need, recommendations for what to watch on all the major streaming services, and our personal picks for the best shows to watch this month. Among our picks, the second season of the stirring drama Pachinko and Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building. The big question of the summer, however, is whether the sophomore season of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is better than the first.
