The myth of The Karate Kid                                                 ?

The myth of The Karate Kid                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 September 27, 2024 Greetings Everyday Spy, Only 46% of kids who get bullied tell anyone about it. That’s a stat no parent likes to hear. Kids can find it hard to discuss their problems, which makes it tough for parents to know what’s going on. And [most kids still can't defend themselves]( against bullies – one childhood reality that hasn’t changed in ages. Bullies don't just live online. While we hear a lot about cyberbullying, real-world bullies still lurk in schools. Getting shoved in a locker, pushed against a wall, tripped in the hallway…the old-fashioned stuff is still alive and well. Kids face threats in places adults can't always watch. Playgrounds, lunch rooms, halls, and bus stops are hot spots for bullies. In many schools, the student/teacher ratio leaves even the most alert staff unable to safeguard everyone. Any child can be a target. Bullies don’t just pick on who they see as ‘weak.’ It could be a new kid in school, a child who excels in studies…ANY kid who draws a bully’s attention. Kids – and parents – are unsure of how to defend against bullies. When I was young, the movie The Karate Kid was huge. Everyone wanted to become like Daniel, ready to defend himself against the local bully. We all thought karate would turn us into little powerhouses. But the truth about martial arts for kids is far from what we see in the movies. Martial arts for kids can quickly turn into a headache. Classes become a weekly expense. Balancing martial arts training with schoolwork, and family time gets stressful. Initial excitement quickly fades once the reality of recurring training sets in. Not to mention you having to cart kids to and from classes each week. CIA gave me easy tactics I teach to my kids to stop any attack. As a parent, knowing my kids can guard themselves is worth more than gold. And it only takes a little time at home to refresh the basics and keep them ready for anything. Always keep up with your kids about possible bullies. Chat with them often about their day. Let them know they can come to you with any problems, big or small. Your greatest mission is to keep them safe. Godspeed, #EverydaySpy P.S. - Physical bullies will always be a threat.
