You might worry that today’s conversations, politics, and leadership decisions are built on fake news, misinformation, and conspiracy. Greetings Everyday Spy, You might worry that today’s conversations, politics, and leadership decisions are built on fake news, misinformation, and conspiracy. Like you, I am also surprised by how often I meet people with extreme opinions that are not based in fact. But always remember that people are not the problem... The ‘information age’ -- with 24-hour access to news, internet, and negative voices -- has given people more data than they can handle. It’s not that different than giving a credit card to a 13 year-old, red bull to a terrier, or a lightsaber to a blind man. They are going to make a huge mess for sure, but there is also reason to have incredible hope… The human race has been in this situation before, and we came out stronger than ever. It was called the ‘Enlightenment.’ And when you push aside the cobwebs of painful high-school memories and pop-quiz trauma, you’ll remember that the Enlightenment was a time of global change. It was a time for innovation and discovery; a time for ending monarchies and empowering common people; it was a time for unforgettable art and the philosophies that define us still today. (It was also the dawn of the professional spy, not that your history teacher ever taught you that!) Espionage isn’t about keeping secrets -- it’s about finding advantages that others try to hide. And then sharing them with the good-guys. Just like you are training with me to improve yourself, protect your loved ones, and control the chaos around you, so are countless others. You may not know them yet, but they are out there -- those ‘enlightened’ who trust logic and reason above fear, suspicion, and lies. Stay strong, know that you are not alone, and remember the famous words of philosopher Immanuel Kant (1784): “Dare to know! Have courage to use your own reason!” Godspeed, #EverydaySpy P.S. - [If you want to know the exact recipe for how politicians, media, and marketers lie to your face without getting caught,]( your copy of my explosive new Decoding Debates eBook!]( Follow @EverydaySpy on Social Media!
