"We’ve done horseback riding, sushi-making, trampoline dodgeball… anything you can think of to bring the #Family together, we’ve done." – Sharon Galor ($$) [Image]( LEARNING TO CREATE RITUALS *** I'm doing a 90 day, 23 city tour. Am I coming to your city? This is for you... {NAME}. #Awesome rituals - Roberto Blake ($) - “I’ll pick 1-2-3 solopreneurs each day and spend 10 minutes reaching out with suggestions. For example, a photographer needs I.T. help. So I tweet her a solution. #Awesome! My focus is on connecting with creators. I’m actively engaged with my people. I chat with them on Facebook, I reply to comments on YouTube. I have a ritual of awesomely engaging, every day.” #Family rituals - Sharon Galor ($$) - “Birthdays are a big deal in our #Family. For many businesses, a customer’s birthday would just another day… but at Toronto Dance Salsa, it’s an event for the whole #Family. When celebrating a student’s birthday, we pull her into the center of our dance floor, and join them in a birthday dance, each taking turns dancing with her one at a time. The whole #Family joins in. We also have regular outings for our Instructors, Assistants, and Helpers. We do everything from archery-tag, to fencing, to trampoline-dodgeball. Game nights, sleepovers, and movies at the studio too.” #Extraordinary rituals - Mark Drager ($$$) - “Communication breakdowns cost you money. Every week we have a Monday morning meeting. Everyone must attend. We’ll go through every project in production. It’s a great place for us to discover where we can brainstorm ideas, communicate better with the client, or move onto the next phase.” #Joy rituals - Richard Sheridan ($$$$) - “Storytelling is a ritual as old as mankind. It’s an important part of our business culture. We tell stories every day. There’s an alarm clock on the dartboard, and it goes off daily at 10:00 am. This signals our Standup Meeting is ready to start. “Bong bong bong,” everyone hears it and stands up to form a circle. Everyone’s included: clients, guests, family members... whoever’s with us. We pass around a plastic viking helmet and tell our work stories. Because we work in pairs, it’s natural for each to grab one of the two handles when their turn comes. It’s a goofy, fun way to report what we are working on.” #Honest rituals - Christopher Gavigan ($$$$$) - “30 minute meetings. We care about people’s time, and we know we don’t have time to waste. So The Honest Company has a 30-minute ritual. We limit all meetings to that. When the Senior Team meets, we only talk about things that keep us excited. I have rituals for myself too. Every day, I walk through the front door because I want to greet my people. I see it as a transformative moment, to remind me of what I’m doing, Every Friday I do what I call “CTG Reach-outs” (CTG are my initials). I basically make 15 customer phone calls. I like to contact both loyal and disgruntled customers. “ Rituals can also be powered up if you add unique names and language to your culture.
