Timepieces that blend timeless design with sustainable innovation Watches With A Purpose: Presenting New Releases By Oris The brand's key new releases: the Great Barrier Reef IV, Hölstein Edition, the updated Upcycle, and Divers Sixty-Five; are all timepieces that blend timeless design with sustainable innovation. Oris, was founded on June 1, 1904, by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein. The two men entered into a contract and named a new watch company, Oris. Today, the brand has been in this game for 120 years - with more than a century of creativity and experience. Oris, a Swiss watchmaker, oversees sustainable horology and has been actively involved in climate-neutral initiatives. The brand's collection and collaborations, further demonstrate its commitment to environmental responsibility, from its work with non-profit organisations to heavy investments in globally impactful measures that will help it conduct its business more sustainably. Already certified as a climate-neutral company, Oris has led the Change for the Better programme—an ambitious mission developed around the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. In 2024, Oris continues to impress with the launch of several exceptional timepieces, each reflecting the brand's dedication to innovation, sustainability, and horological excellence. Among these are the Upcycle, Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV, Hölstein Edition 2024, and Divers Sixty-Five Date. Each of these watches not only showcases Oris' craftsmanship but also highlights their commitment to making a positive environmental impact. The Upcycle series, known for its use of recycled ocean plastics, continues to redefine eco-conscious luxury. Meanwhile, the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV supports crucial marine conservation efforts, underscoring Oris' ongoing "Change for the Better" campaign. The Hölstein Edition 2024 commemorates the brand's Swiss heritage with a limited release that is both bold and timeless. Lastly, the Divers Sixty-Five remains an icon in the world of dive watches, combining vintage aesthetics with modern performance. Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV: 2,000-piece limited edition Limited to 2,000 pieces, this watch is more than just a rare collectible. Each purchase supports the Reef Restoration Foundation’s coral tree planting initiative, directly contributing to crucial conservation efforts. A collaboration between Oris and the Reef Restoration Foundation highlights the brand’s commitment to its ‘Change for the Better’ mission. Oris has captured the essence of the world’s largest coral reef system on a 43.5mm dial, creating a visually striking timepiece. The dial features a vertical gradient that transitions from turquoise to deep blue, evoking the sun’s rays filtering through the reef’s waters. Applied, shield-shaped hour indices stand prominently against this oceanic backdrop, complemented by Alpha-style hour and minute hands. The date window perfectly adorns at six o’clock, matching the darker dial section. The lollipop central seconds hand introduces a subtle playful element to an otherwise serious diver’s watch. The 43.5mm stainless steel case offers a water resistance of up to 300m. The unidirectional rotating bezel is adorned with a grey tungsten insert displaying a 60-minute scale. Turning the watch over you’ll find a securely screwed-down solid caseback, adorned with intricate engravings depicting marine life, including coral and a starfish. The caseback also bears the watch’s name and a unique number within the limited series. At the core of this timepiece is Oris’ in-house calibre 400 automatic movement, with an impressive 120-hour (five-day) power reserve, this movement underscores the brand’s commitment to technical excellence. Its timekeeping performance falls within a daily rate of -3 to +5 seconds, aligning with chronometer standards. This accuracy is maintained even in the face of magnetic fields, thanks to the movement’s clever design by incorporating silicon components in the escapement and using non-magnetic materials for critical parts. Oris offers a 10-year recommended service interval and a 10-year warranty upon registration. This level of confidence in its product speaks volumes about the quality and engineering behind it. Available in 36.5mm and 41.50mm when launched in 2021, the Upcycle editions feature dials crafted from recycled ocean plastics. With this move, Oris got into repurposing ocean waste and creating distinct and vibrant characters for its Upcycle watches, thanks to the brand’s manufacturing process that randomises the dial design using PET plastics. The all-new Aquis Date Upcycle has a multi-piece stainless steel case. The 41.50mm and 43.50mm Upcycle iterations come equipped with a ceramic minutes scale top ring and anti-reflective domed sapphire crystals on the dial and caseback. Paired with a stainless steel bracelet, the watches offer 300m water resistance. The feature date wheels that seamlessly blend with the recycled plastic patterns on the dial. The Alpha hands and shield-like hour markers also lend a contemporary edge to the Upcyles. Coming to the case profile has been slimmed down and coupled with the sculpted lugs for a more ergonomic silhouette. Completing this makeover is the new bracelet with a wider, brushed centre link that tapers towards the clasp, giving it a sleeker look and feel. Lastly, the patented quick adjustment clasp system has three adjustment positions to easily tighten or loosen the fit with a pinch-and-slide action. The 733-1 automatic winding movement powers the 41.50mm and 43.50mm Upcycle versions. This engine beats at a frequency of 4Hz and delivers a 41-hour power reserve. The movements enable various functions, like central hands for hours, minutes, and seconds, date window at six o’clock, instantaneous date, date corrector, fine timing device, and stop-second. With the Aquis Date Upcycle, Oris has carried forward its mission to prove that style, performance, and environmental responsibility can all be worked out in a single watch. A single watch cannot fix the plastic crisis, but the Aquis Upcycle is a step in the right direction. It gets people talking about the climate crisis and gives buyers a chance to make a difference through this wrist accessory. Based on its retro sports watch—the Divers Sixty-Five, this striking timekeeper comes in a 40mm stainless-steel case, where the bezel and crown are plated in black DLC (diamond-like carbon). The hands, hour markers, dial text, date wheel, and lume are all in black, too, and the watch is set on a black rubber strap with a black DLC-plated buckle. The caseback is also plated in black DLC and is engraved with the limited-edition number and the Oris Bear, offering a water resistance of up to 100m. This is the fifth Hölstein edition that Oris has produced to mark the company’s birthday, and allows them to showcase that they take its work quite seriously. This is the first time that the brand has paired a regular bezel with a minutes scale (rather than a 12-hour scale) on a Divers Sixty-Five watch, equipped with the in-house Calibre 400. This means the watch has a generous five-day power reserve, and enhanced levels of resistance to everyday anti-magnetism, and it comes with a 10-year warranty for users who register the watch at MyOris. The special-edition pieces that Oris makes once a year are hyper-realisations of our independent, joyful attitude. And I think that’s why our customers love them,” Studer explains and says that the watch is for everyone. “There’s no waiting list. You don’t have to be a special customer who’s bought loads of Oris watches before. You don’t have to travel thousands of kilometres to get to a special event. You don’t need to be friends with the right people. You just have to be quick,” he further elaborates. This all-black aesthetic imparts an understated yet very powerful look to the timepiece that makes quite an impact on the wrist. Today, Oris is officially climate neutral. With its oath and responsibility to give back—to the environment and communities—seriously, Oris partnered with the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) for the 2010 and 2016 editions. AMCS, Australia’s top charity for ocean protection, spearheaded projects, government initiatives, and new laws to preserve unique marine ecosystems. In 2019, Oris partnered with the Reef Restoration Foundation to launch the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III. Based in Queensland, Oris has been working with the Coral Restoration Foundation since 2017 and has launched three limited editions to support its coral reforestation work, namely the Staghorn Limited Edition and two Carysfort Reef Limited Editions. This non-profit organisation developed coral-tree systems to restore reefs impacted by pollution and climate change, critical issues affecting the reef's sensitive coral species. Launched in 2024, the fourth Limited Edition continues Oris' Great Barrier Reef series, a cornerstone of its 'Change for the Better' initiative, dedicated to protecting endangered marine ecosystems globally. Oris' unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability shines through its impactful partnerships and initiatives. From coral reef restoration to ambitious carbon reduction goals, Oris continues to lead the way in creating a positive environmental legacy, proving that luxury and responsibility can go hand in hand.
