But our partner Forum Konservasi Leuser (FKL) is on the cusp of purchasing and protecting -- forever! -- critical areas of land that will give these apes the space they need to recover and thrive. Our community has done so much work over the years to protect orangutans from palm oil pillaging, and this has been a huge part of it -- actually helping to buy the land and pay for patrols to stop deforestation and poaching. After securing the land, FKL educates local communities in sustainable resource use and recruits community members for jobs to protect the forest.
