As a woman, as someone with friends who've gone through IVF, as a combat vet who put her life on the line for our freedoms… this is SO personal to me. At this point, it feels like everyone around me is talking about what's happening in Alabama, but in case you missed it, here's the short version: The Alabama Supreme Court has ruled – citing "the wrath of God" – that embryos are children. The result? IVF clinics in the state suspended services, leaving people who desperately want children in limbo. This is a dangerous precedent for: - Blocking access to reproductive care – not only has this threatened IVF, but by declaring embryos are children, the Alabama Supreme Court has also opened the door to banning certain forms of birth control. - Erasing the lines between church and state – this is a foundational part of our democracy, and I find it deeply disturbing that judges would make decisions based on the Bible instead of the law and science. As a woman, as someone with friends who've gone through IVF, as a combat vet who put her life on the line for our freedoms… this is SO personal to me. The anti-choice Far Right was never going to just stop at abortion. And Brian Fitzpatrick has shown he is completely unwilling to stand up to the MAGA forces who will absolutely push their patriarchal, anti-choice agenda on all of us. Like hell am I going to stand by and let that happen. [I fought for our reproductive freedom overseas, on the battlefield. Now I'm ready to fight for it in the halls of Congress.
