Hey {NAME}, When you sit down to start a project to demonstrate some skills you've learned, it's easy to get stuck in decision paralysis. What if I build the wrong thing? What if someone else has already built that app? What if... The "What if's" will keep coming unless you do something about it. The thing is, it doesn't really matter what you build, it's about the process and knowledge you gain along the way. Just start building and communicating what you build! A great place to start are projects that have a pre-defined set of requirements and scope so you don't have to worry yourself about what to build. Implementing a simple game gives you just that! Kyle Shevlin has done just that with his course Manage Complex Tic Tac Toe Game State in React. Take Tic Tac Toe, for instance. You need to: - Create a 3x3 Grid - Alternate between Xs and Os when clicking in a square - 3 symbols in a row in any direction wins - Tie if all squares are filled without 3 in a row With these requirements and rules in place, you can get started coding! You'll start with a fresh React project and step by step implement a Tic Tac Toe game. You will: - Create the 3x3 squares with CSS Grid - Use multidimensional arrays to track game state - Handle updates with useReducer - Implement guard statements to check for wins and ties Along the way, you'll learn how fundamental React patterns for managing and updating state. = = [egghead course badge for Manage Complex Tic Tac Toe Game State in React](=) 👉 [Watch Manage Complex Tic Tac Toe Game State in React by Kyle Shevlin (24min)](=) Happy Learning, Zac P.S. When you're done with the course, there are many ways you can improve on the game code. Kent C. Dodds has a few ideas that you could implement that he open-sourced: [preserving state or adding game history.]() Challenge yourself to implement one of these features (or your own!) and write about what you learn in the process. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
