Happy Weekend! We’ve had some great questions from clients recently about how to improve time management & productivity — both in business and their personal lives. So today I wanted to share the advice we’ve given them because I know it can help you too. Q: How and when do you find time to consume content / read? My Answer: a) I try to consume important stuff in large blocks. b) I also try to consume as little as possible. c) So when I do find something worthwhile, I'll do 2-hour blocks on Wednesdays or on the weekends since I don't take calls on those days… Sometimes I also get open space after 3pm and before Isabella’s nanny has to leave at 5pm. d) With ‘lighter stuff’ I'll quickly skim it on my iphone kindle app while in the car (not driving!) or in an airport line, etc… This includes fiction like Dune and non-fiction like Scott Adam's Reframe Your Brain, biographies, etc. e) But really the key is to be ruthless in terms of consumption. It's gotta be really, really good for me to use my precious time to consume anything. In most cases it’s better off to say no. Side Note: Mastermind attendee Patrick highly recommends Blinkist for 10-15 minute book summaries (published in audios that you can also transcribe)… Most non-fiction books really should be 6-page magazine articles, and it sounds like Blinkist is good for people who want to “read” a book a week but have little time. ***** Now over to a couple killer answers from Head Coach Daniel Woodrum… Q: What are the biggest time wasters you see entrepreneurs making?  Answer from Daniel: Small business owners need to STOP being the “tech expert” in their business! We don't talk enough about this. But too many entrepreneurs are building out websites, creating their own funnels, upgrading CRM’s, etc. Yet they have little to no actual tech expertise! So they waste hours and hours on these types of tasks — including watching YT “how to” videos. It's costing them a ton of time and money and causing a ton of stress. The most frustrating part is that these tasks are easily outsourced on websites like Upwork or fiverr... or local college kids! It’s easy, and should be an automatic delegation point in your business. I've become more aware of this in conversations with clients and "calling them out" when it comes up in coaching calls or emails. The ones who are taking delegation seriously are having big breakthroughs. Q: Why do business owners need to “embrace laziness”?  Answer from Daniel: Strategic laziness in your business (and personal life) provides you with more energy and effort in the areas that matter most. I was talking to a new client on a coaching call and we determined a couple of tasks she needed to delegate — but I felt a LOT of resistance from her. After some digging… She explained that she would feel “lazy” not doing these tasks. I challenged her on this, and said she was actually being lazier by not delegating these off because they are $20/hr tasks… Yet she's running a $2M company and surely she feels her time is worth more than $20/hr.   Putting it to her in that way gave her a huge paradigm shift and helped her see how important it is to delegate. ***** Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of these ideas… When you apply them in your daily actions… These strategies will give you more time for what matters and help you put more “whitespace” on your calendar. Don’t wait — try these out this week! Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
