Take Oregon, for example. They’re thinking about giving $30,000 grants to people buying their first homes. But Oregon is already one of the states with the highest housing costs—ranked 12th. Then there’s California. It has the most expensive housing in the country, yet they’re considering a plan to give $150,000 loans from the state to new homebuyers. These proposals might help some people, but they’ll also increase demand in a housing market that’s already struggling to keep up.
