The Ongoing Fight for Gender Equity in the Workplace [Beyond 9 to 5] On September 17, 2024, the Department of Labor Womenâs Bureau will host an in-person screening of Still Working 9 to 5, in collaboration with the filmâs creative team, at the U.S. Department of Labor Frances Perkins Building in Washington, D.C. from 4:30 PM â 8:30 PM EST. After the screening, there will be a post-screening talkback panel moderated by Acting Secretary of Labor Julie A. Su, featuring Camille Hardman and Gary Lane (Still Working 9 to 5 Filmmakers), Fatima Goss Graves (CEO of the National Womenâs Law Center), Karen Nussbaum (Organizer, Co-Founder of 9to5, Former Director of the U.S. Department of Labor Womenâs Bureau), Claudia Nachega (Youth Advocate and Young Feminist Party Deputy Executive Director), and other labor leaders. The panel will discuss many of the important themes included in the film and the past, present, and future of the fight for gender equity and equality at work. When the original 9 to 5 film was released in 1980, it contributed to a cultural and societal movement that shed light on many of the inequitable and unjust realities that working women in the United States were experiencing in the workforce for decades. These issuesâsuch as pay inequity, occupational segregation, sexual harassment, discrimination, and lack of access to quality and affordable careâare still present in the workplace to this day. Still Working 9 to 5 examines this 40-year evolution of gender inequality and discrimination in the workplace since the release of the original film, overlayed with how womenâs movements and labor movements have been driving progress in the United States. The Womenâs Bureau is honored to be in collaboration with the Still Working 9 to 5 team to host this screening and talkback that will center on the important role of the labor movement and public policy in strengthening our workplaces, our economy, and our democracy as a whole. If you are able to join us in-person on September 17, 2024, at the Frances Perkins Building in Washington, D.C., please register using this link no later than September 15, 2024. Space is limited, so we encourage you to [register early](%2F%2Fwww.eventbrite.com%2Fe%2Fbeyond-9-to-5-the-ongoing-fight-for-gender-equity-in-the-workplace-tickets-1000764482507/1/01010191dcb01b1f-0e33db38-84c0-4f5b-9cd5-e8c53cd1c5e9-000000/_-SlVF6l4Unn8zhRSiwsIjnVUR7AknJWI_ENfWCHtfI=369). --------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on Social Media [WB] Follow the Women's Bureau on social media on [X/Twitter](%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FWB_DOL/1/01010191dcb01b1f-0e33db38-84c0-4f5b-9cd5-e8c53cd1c5e9-000000/bMG8LY1WCLnZcFb1IvIr5yQwmWrADnWZtcXigj5n1o0=369) and [LinkedIn](%2F%2Fwww.linkedin.com%2Fshowcase%2F101777458/1/01010191dcb01b1f-0e33db38-84c0-4f5b-9cd5-e8c53cd1c5e9-000000/b62HPhHTdKFpybqrBnimGCSdyf2MNJ2WmhbWjuZzDGQ=369) to learn more about our latest research, initiatives, policies, and updates related to working women and their families. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Bookmark and Share](%2F%2Fcontent.govdelivery.com%2Faccounts%2FUSDOL%2Fbulletins%2F3b4da95%3Freqfrom=share/1/01010191dcb01b1f-0e33db38-84c0-4f5b-9cd5-e8c53cd1c5e9-000000/MPuj4fIP7hqWsgAoUIwomhRUvl8hJO9xgAs9fCbIS_w=369) FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT: U.S. Department of Labor - Women's Bureau - 200 Constitution Ave NW - Washington, DC 20210
