[[The Health Edge] ---------------------------------------------------------------]( [Learn more about RevenueStripe...]( The Inevitability of an Impeachment Hearing DimWit Politics - Larry Horist With the election of a Democrat House majority, the odds of an impeachment hearing have gone up dramatically - from zero to a bit short of 100 percent. The increased likelihood is not due to any significant changes in what we know about the various investigations surrounding President Trump, his family members, advisors, business associates and others involved with the 2016 campaign. It has more to do with Democrats controlling the House. The primary motivation behind any impeachment proceeding against Trump is the desire by the Democrats to force Trump out of office in a hyped-up air of controversy that will turn the voting public to the Democrats in 2020. It is often explained that impeachment is not a legal proceeding, but a political process. That knowledge should scare the hell out of any American who cherishes our Founders' vision of a free Republic, the rule-of-law and the presumption of innocence. The problem with impeachment is that because it is a purely political process, there are no legal protections. There is no threshold of criminality. A President can be impeached, and even removed from office, by nothing more than political whim and will -- for too many parking tickets. It simply requires the minimum number of votes in the House -- and Senate, for removal -- at any time for any reason. Tradition and culture have prevented the process from being overly politicized - until recently. But times they are a-changin'. In the first 197 years of our Republic, only one President was impeached - Andrew Johnson -- and he was not removed from office. That case involved less than four of those 197 years of a presidential terms in office and one out of 36 different presidents - a 1/36th ratio. If impeachment proceedings were to begin for Trump, he would be the third president subjected to possible removal from office in the past 44 years - and the total terms impacted would be at least one-half of the presidential years of office within those 44 years. It would be three out of the last nine presidents - a 1/3rd ratio. This strongly suggests that impeachment - and even the initiation of an impeachment hearing - has been weaponized. It may not be the easiest way to remove a President but going through the initial motions is now deemed to have enormous perceived political advantage. ...[More]( Afterquote...
