The Supreme Court is riddled with right-wing extremism, causing a crisis of legitimacy. The TERM Act

The Supreme Court is riddled with right-wing extremism, causing a crisis of legitimacy. The TERM Act would create 18-year term limits for justices, with 2 appointees per President, resulting in a more balanced and accountable Supreme Court. [Democracy for America Advocacy Fund](#) {NAME} Two years after overturning Roe v. Wade, this extremist and corrupt Supreme Court continues to accept lavish gifts, operate without an enforceable code of conduct, and demolish essential rights and protections for American citizens, while creating the potential for a rogue Presidency fully exempt from the law for any actions deemed “official.” Support for judicial reform over the last decade has been solidly bipartisan, with over 70% support for Supreme Court justice term limits. Poll after poll has indicated some type of term limits are supported by majorities of Republican, Democrat, and Independent voters. State supreme courts have term limits, as do the high courts of the world’s other constitutional democracies. Life-long appointments are called for in the U.S. Constitution; however, it falls to Congress to determine how the Supreme Court is constituted and how it operates. As a result, there are some possible reforms that could address these issues without requiring a Constitutional Amendment. Under the Supreme Court TERM Act, two Justices would be appointed each Presidential term, to serve Actively with an 18-year term limit -- at which time they would enter Senior Justice status, eligible to sit in on an as-needed basis, but no longer regularly serving on the 9-member Court. [Urge your members of Congress to sponsor and pass the Supreme Court TERM Act today!]( [SIGN AND SEND]( The current Supreme Court regularly advances extreme views that do not represent most Americans, divided 6-3 along ideological lines. They’ve already gutted Roe v. Wade and the Voting Rights Act, and now the most conservative justices have told us out loud: marriage equality, IVF, and contraception are among their next targets. The American people cannot continue to tolerate the ethical lapses of the Supreme Court as it currently stands, from Justice Clarence Thomas’ lavish gifts from billionaires, to Justice Samuel Alito’s outrageous shows of support for the January 6 insurrectionists. In short, the Supreme Court is in dire need of reform. The Constitution gives each justice a lifetime appointment during “good behavior.” But the Supreme Court TERM Act would establish that, after 18 years of Active service, a justice will become a Senior Justice, eligible to hear lower court cases, and to fill any temporary openings on the Supreme Court that may come up. As a result, the nine members of the Supreme Court would more accurately reflect the country’s ideological balance over the preceding two decades. We would not have to fear that one president would have a disproportionate influence over the makeup of the Court. Increased turnover could bring the first Asian, Indigenous, and openly LGBTQ+ justices. [Let's make Supreme Court term limits a reality! Tell Congress to pass the TERM Act today!]( Thank you for supporting meaningful Supreme Court reform. - DFA AF Team [Power This Campaign]( Democracy for America Advocacy Fund is a 501c4 organization.
