But I want to warn you, it discusses a sensitive topic: [WATCH NOW →]( My opponent let a man who was charged with grooming and sexual assault walk free. He had the power to hold a rapist accountable, but instead, he gave him no prison time, and he didn’t even have him register as a sex offender. That’s not the kind of leader we need as our next Attorney General. This is an important issue to me, {NAME}. When I took office as Pennsylvania’s Auditor General in 2013, there were 3,000 untested rape kits sitting in evidence rooms and crime labs across Pennsylvania. In that number, I saw 3,000 victims of rape who had the courage to willingly subject themselves to an invasive and uncomfortable medical examination in the pursuit of justice and to protect others from their assailants. Instead, the justice system failed them. Those rape kits should have been tested right away, but instead, thousands of them sat for months, even years—untouched and untested—meaning the attackers were never caught and the survivors never got justice. I wasn’t about to let this injustice stand—not on my watch. So I brought the full force and resources of my office to bear and we worked to reduce the backlog of untested rape kits. We fought for more resources and held law enforcement agencies accountable. And in three years, the backlog dropped by 90 percent. And the work didn’t stop there. My investigation led to action in Harrisburg. A bipartisan coalition passed a law creating the sexual assault evidence tracking system. That law will help ensure the backlog of untested rape kits never happens again. I’m proud of many accomplishments during my tenure as Auditor General, but getting justice for nearly 3,000 victims of sexual assault is the one I’m most proud of. That’s why knowing that my opponent let an abuser walk free makes my blood boil. We can’t let him become Pennsylvania’s next Attorney General.
