Our opponents have even said their goal is to “control the supreme courts” so they can “control the redistricting process.” The all-Republican Supreme Court of Texas is a great example of how the far right is using the courts as a political tool: Earlier this year, the court upheld the state’s abortion ban when it rejected a challenge by women denied medically necessary abortions. State supreme courts are often the last line of defense against gerrymandering and unjust, unpopular attacks on our freedoms.
