{NAME} -- If confirmed, Donald Trump's new nominees for Secretary of State and CIA Director could put us on paths to war in Iran, North Korea, and Syria. To make matters worse, they've overseen and supported torture by the CIA and other American entities. And they’ve indicated that they will continue American support for the Saudi war in Yemen -- without asking for Congressional approval. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee vote for Secretary of State nominee Mike Pompeo is currently too close to call -- with opposition from all Democrats thus far and even one Republican. This could mark the first time since 1925 that a Secretary of State candidate fails to win committee support. The full Senate could vote as soon as next week. Will you send a quick message to your Senators and tell them to oppose Trump’s warmongering nominees now? [Join Democracy for America and urge your Senators to vote against Trump’s dangerous nominees for Secretary of State and CIA Director.]( Secretary of State nominee Mike Pompeo has historically supported torture and has said that all Muslims are "potentially complicit" in terrorism. The State Department is supposed to play a key role in international climate negotiations, human rights, and preserving peace around the world. Pompeo is a climate-change denier who has advocated for war over diplomacy with Iran. CIA Director nominee Gina Haspel oversaw torture programs in secret prisons abroad -- and then engaged in a cover-up by pushing for the destruction of tapes of the interrogations during which torture took place. The European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights has called for Haspel's arrest for her role in the torture of detainees. With Trump publicly calling for the U.S. to “bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding”, Haspel is the last person we want in charge of the CIA. If these nominees are confirmed, they will push the U.S. towards more wars and more torture. We need to stop them. [Email your Senators now and tell them to block Trump's War Cabinet by opposing the nominations of Mike Pompeo and Gina Haspel.]( Thank you for your work to stop two dangerous Trump nominees. - Jay Jay Henderson, Senior Digital Strategy Manager Democracy for America [DONATE]( Paid for by Democracy for America, and not authorized by any candidate.
