The TechnoKing’s takeover of Twitter (sorry, X) has not exactly been popular with journalists. After all, he basically gutted their status symbol. What good is a blue check when anyone can buy it - and anons actually get more followers than some supposedly “prestigious” journalist? It’s no wonder that people are calling him everything from a Bond supervillain to even a traitor. But perhaps Musk will get the last laugh. Tesla enjoyed a 10% boost yesterday (and presumably, Musk got another few million dollars added to his net worth) after a major upgrade from Morgan Stanley. Analysts predicted the company’s new Dojo supercomputer could add as much as $500 million in market value. “Investors have long debated whether Tesla is an auto company or a tech company,” they said. “We believe it’s both, but see the biggest value driver from here being software and services revenue.” Musk has said the company will spend more than $1 billion on the supercomputer by the end of 2024. Musk has also made some surprising claims about where he sees his company’s future. “Almost all of Tesla’s value long-term will be from AI & robots, both vehicle and humanoid,” he said. Now, Musk is about to get a very bad PR day, as the new Walter Isaacson biography is about to hit… But does it matter? The fact is, it takes crazy, workaholic, driven, and borderline insane people to get things done. And right now, TSLA shareholders are benefitting from the method in the madness. Get What’s Yours, Jeff Bishop THE WORD ON THE STREET - A Surprising Way To Remember 9/11 – The United States has [unfrozen]( about $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds in exchange for five American citizens being held in Iran. Iran is also getting back five of its own citizens. Leading Republicans blasted the deal, with Senator Chuck Grassley calling it “ridiculous” and Senator Tom Cotton accusing the Biden Administration of “paying ransom to the world’s worst state sponsor of terrorism.” - Budget Deficit Doubling, What Could Go Wrong? - The federal budget will double this year, [swelling]( from $1 trillion to about $2 trillion. Revenues are also down, about 10% from this time last year. Higher bond yields are one result of the slow motion fiscal crisis. Get ready for these talking points to be hitting the papers when the next government shutdown fight arrives in a few weeks. - Canopy Growth Hits New High – See what I did there? Canopy Growth [surged]( over 21%, closing at $1.14. It briefly hit $1.79 and posted the largest one-day gain in its history. The price has quadrupled over the last two weeks. The DEA’s consideration of moving cannabis away from Schedule 1 is responsible for a boom in the entire cannabis sector. - Tesla Investing $15 Billion In Mexican Factory – According to the state governor of Nuevo Leon, Samuel Garcia, Tesla will [invest]( $15 billion in a new factory. It represents triple the commitment that was previously announced. Production is reportedly going to begin in 2025, but Tesla hasn’t yet confirmed the schedule. - Brent Crude Hits $91 – Russia and Saudi Arabia [continue]( to restrict oil supplies and prices hit their highest level of the year. Brent Crude and U.S. West Texas Intermediate prices are both up over 13% so far this year. Saudi Arabia and Russia announced an agreement to cut production by another one million barrels per day last week. The deal will last until the end of the year. - Oracle Plummets On Disappointing Revenue – Oracle (ORCL) was [down]( more than 9.2% in after-hours trading last night. Revenue fell below Wall Street estimates as businesses cut back on cloud spending. Oracle tried to boost enthusiasm by bragging about new purchases by businesses for AI - but investors didn’t bite.
