[Click here]( STORY OF THE DAY [Sassa Crisis in Concourt: The Guardians, The People and the Predator State]( By RANJENI MUNUSAMY “Absolute incompetence.” Minister Bathabile Dlamini probably does not care that Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng delivered this damning assessment of her handling of the social grants system. From her performance in the National Assembly on Tuesday, it is clear criticism bounces off her. But if the ANC has any hope of continuing to run South Africa, they should care. Their policy documents say they need to focus on building “a capable and developmental state”. But we have reached a situation where the judiciary, civil society and Chapter 9 institutions have to protect us from an executive and Parliament that repeatedly breach the Constitution and fail in their duties. [Trump travel ban blocked before implementation]( A federal judge in Hawaii has blocked President Donald Trump's travel ban 2.0 just hours before its implementation. The ruling by District Judge Derrick Watson effectively created a 90-day nationwide freeze on the travel ban. There was a predictable froth issued forth by Trump, who vowed to take the ban's ban up to the Supreme Court. [Netherlands sees Wilders out on his arse]( Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte convincingly defeated a challenge by far-right rival Geert Wilders in the Netherland's key elections. Many in the EU had been monitoring the vote to gauge the current mood in Europe towards the the union in general. With Wilders soundly defeated, it appears as though far-right orange lunatics are having a rough Thursday. [Anti-austerity riots erupt in Brazil]( Brazilian government attempts to curb a crumbling economy has been met with protests by tens of thousands of citizens. Led in part by former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, protesters occupied the finance ministry and the centre of Sao Paulo, while teachers disrupted classes. [Black Caps stage valiant recovery]( Henry Nicholls has led a New Zealand recovery after losing three early wickets for 21 runs. Nicholls held firm with Jeet Raval in a 52-run stand, ultimately clawing New Zealand back from the brink to take them to 160-5 at tea. — PICTURE OF THE DAY BY EPA/KIMIMASA MAYAMA Cuba's starter Lazaro Blanco throws a pitch against Netherlands' third baseman Xander Bogaerts in the first inning of the second round game of the World Baseball Classic at Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan, 15 March 2017.
