So you’ve seen all the ads for Maverick Insider but don’t know what it’s really about

[Click here for the web version of this email]( [Daily Maverick] [What is Maverick Insider?]( So you’ve seen all the ads for Maverick Insider but don’t know what it’s really about? Here’s the two minute rundown. Why? News, and how we consume it, is changing. Newspapers are on the terminal decline; newsrooms are becoming smaller and what used to be the source of revenue - advertising - has been hijacked by Google and Facebook, who employ few in this country and pay almost no tax to our embattled Revenue service... (The other revenue pillar, classifieds, died a long time ago with the advent of Craig’s List.) In response, many online publishers erected ‘paywalls’: giving their readers a couple of free articles a month and then forcing them to pay if they want to read more. We at Daily Maverick chose against that checkbook-truth approach. We simply couldn’t keep our crucial investigations and reporting available to only those who could afford it. Instead, we created a voluntary membership: Maverick Insider. Err... What? Maverick Insider is about much more than just plugging a financial hole. We’re building a community of readers who we turn to for their participation, support, feedback and their own networks. If we’re thinking of launching a new newsletter, our Insiders are consulted. If we are hosting an event, our Insiders are the first ones on the guest list. If we’re looking for new offices, ideas for our book imprint name or to share a glow of our successes, Insiders are an integral part of our day. After all, these are the people who want to see Daily Maverick stick around and have joined our cause. We share the same moral obligation: to keep Daily Maverick free for those who can’t afford to pay. How? Maverick Insiders choose how much to pay and how often (monthly or annually). Their contribution not only keeps Daily Maverick available to all who read it; it also comes with a host of other benefits: ad-free browsing, the ability to comment on articles, a behind-the-scenes newsletter of what’s going on at DM HQ, invitations to events, discounted tickets. Insiders who pay R150 or more per month, receive R100 back in Uber vouchers. Every month. And because we hate long-term contracts as much as anyone, and we commit to delivering quality journalism day after day, members can cancel or pause at any time. As a subscriber to our newsletters, we know you appreciate Daily Maverick and our mission to defend truth in these dark times. You’re one of our most engaged readers. Most of you, upon waking, roll over, pick up your phone and start your day with us (to your partner’s dismay). Help us keep delivering our quality, independent news and investigations into your inbox by becoming a Maverick Insider. It takes less than three minutes to sign up and you can do it [here](. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
