Friend, it is quite obvious to everyone the far right-majority Supreme Court Justices cannot be trusted to abide ethically on their own–obvious to everyone except those justices. [Sign the petition: No more corruption! Enact ethics standards for the Supreme Court.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Following revelation after revelation of corrupt scandal after scandal of some sitting justices, SCOTUS stalwarts are still refusing to do the right thing. In a highly unusual (and quite unethical) interview, conservative Justice Samuel Alito [questioned]( whether Congress has the power to impose ethics rules on the Supreme Court. This answer is in fact, [YES](. Now, after calls for Alito’s recusal from cases that involve legislation that regulates the Supreme Court, Alito is of course [refusing](. Much as he did when he received undisclosed lavish gifts from a conservative billionaire who then had business before the court–Alito did not recuse himself. It is glaringly obvious that conservative justices have no intention of governing themselves ethically. And Congress DOES have the constitutional power to impose ethics standards on those justices. Congress must do so immediately, for the sake of our Court. [Sign the petition to Congress: Pass the Supreme Court Ethics Act and the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thanks for all you do, Erin Tulley, Daily Kos P.S. Below is an email we sent out earlier demanding Congress enact Supreme Court ethics standards: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, [sign the petition: No more corruption! Enact ethics standards for the Supreme Court.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Every federal judge in this country–except the nine justices of the Supreme Court–are bound by a code of ethics that prevents blatant conflicts of interest. Without a code of ethics or accountability, Justice Clarence Thomas has been able to accept undisclosed luxury yacht trips, private jet travel, and resort vacations FOR YEARS from [multiple]( billionaire megadonors. Clarence Thomas knowingly and repeatedly refuses to disclose these and other gifts. Many of these gifts were from people and companies that had or have cases before the court. That is what one calls MAJOR conflicts of interest. Thomas isn’t the only justice with major ethical concerns. His conservative buddies on the bench have also accepted money and gifts and then refused to recuse themselves when conflicts of interest arose: Alito, Gorsuch, Coney Barrett, Roberts… This is a PROBLEM! [Sign the petition: No more corruption! Enact ethics standards for the Supreme Court.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Corrupt actions by sitting justices only serves to further erode the court’s integrity and the public’s trust in that court. Supreme Court justices must be held to account for flouting the ethical rules that apply to every other judge in the country. We must restore transparency and accountability in the U.S. Supreme Court. We are calling on Congress to ensure that by passing the Supreme Court Ethics Act. [Sign the petition to Congress: Pass the Supreme Court Ethics Act.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thanks for all you do, Erin Tulley, Daily Kos Daily Kos is powered by grassroots donors like you Donations from our readers and activists like you are our largest source of income.
