Friend, In 2022 alone, the world's largest banks injected a staggering into the fossil fuel industry

Friend, [sign the petition to Congress: We can’t allow Big Banks to continue putting polluter profits over people. Pass the Fossil Free Finance Act to require that banks stop financing fossil fuels!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( In 2022 alone, the world's largest banks injected a staggering [$673 billion]( into the fossil fuel industry. While Black, brown, Indigenous, and low-income communities are [suffering]( vastly disproportionate impacts from climate change and environmental hazards, these financial giants continue to boost the fortunes of those responsible for our environmental crisis. [The Fossil Free Finance Act]( would mandate banks to get their act together and align with U.S. commitments under the Paris Agreement. As long as the climate crisis remains unchecked, these devastating weather events will not just continue but will increase in frequency. We must hold polluters accountable. The time for drastic action is now—not tomorrow, not someday, but today. [Add your name: Tell Congress to pass the Fossil Free Finance Act!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thanks for all you do, Romario, Daily Kos P.S. Below is an email we sent out earlier to pass the Fossil Free Finance Act: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, as I write this, a Category 3 hurricane has made landfall in Florida, heading towards Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. In just the last month, climate change related weather events in every corner of the country have cost us lives, culture, and property, further exacerbating already extreme income inequality. [Sign the petition to Congress: We can’t allow Big Banks to continue putting polluter profits over people. Pass the Fossil Free Finance Act to require that banks stop financing fossil fuels!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Still, multinational financial institutions continue to lend billions to the fossil fuel industry and their allies, despite [public platitudes]( about addressing climate change. In the last year, the world's largest banks have dumped [$673 billion]( into fossil fuel companies. Without immediate action by the finance sector, climate-fueled weather disasters will continue and expand, worldwide. The Fossil Free Finance Act would require big banks to stop financing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and instead lend and invest responsibly. This would also align bank lending with U.S. obligations under the Paris Agreement. We learned during the Great Recession that banks cannot be trusted to regulate themselves—not when it comes to mortgages and not when it comes to curbing the impacts of climate change. The Fossil Free Finance Act will go a long way to holding the banks that continue to uplift and support fossil fuel companies accountable.
