Friend, more travel delays! UGH. Right now, there are [7,000 to 9,000]( delayed flights per day in the U.S. These delays are caused by various reasons–weather, wildfire smoke, staff shortages–but it’s the consumers who are left dealing with all of the hassle. Congress must step in and help the consumers! [Sign the petition: Congress must regulate the airline industry.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Very soon, Congress will take up must-pass legislation to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)–legislation that would lay the groundwork for the FAA’s long-term agenda to modernize the airline industry. This legislation is our chance to include provisions that will protect consumers, including more pilots in the air and addressing baggage fees. Congress can and must do more. Join us in demanding Congress regulate the airline industry and put consumers first. [Sign the petition: Congress must regulate the airline industry.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thanks for all you do, Erin Tulley, Daily Kos P.S. Below is an email we sent out earlier calling on Congress to regulate the airline industry: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, this summer, we've seen unprecedented disruptions in air travel due to severe weather events, leaving countless passengers stranded and frustrated. The harsh reality is that these storms, supercharged by our rapidly worsening climate crisis, are becoming our new normal. [Sign the petition: Demand airline regulation amidst skyrocketing climate change.]( [Sign the petition]( Despite the clear [connection]( between air travel and climate change, the industry is conveniently looking the other way while their planes keep adding to the problem, making our skies less friendly and our planet less habitable. Even after the infusion of [$54 billion]( taxpayer dollars during the pandemic, these airlines have chosen to downsize their most valuable asset – their workforce. This decision has led to a crisis of staffing and service, leaving airlines ill-equipped to cope with the chaos of weather disruptions. The detrimental effects of climate change are not in some far-off future–they are here and now. We see them daily: the floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and neverending fires. We need regulations that discourage environmentally harmful practices and ensure that passengers are protected during climate-induced disruptions. Let's push for a future where our skies are friendlier and our planet is healthier. [Sign the petition: Demand that Congress enforce climate accountability in the airline industry.]( [Sign the petition]( Keep fighting, Romario Brown, Daily Kos Before you leave, can you do one more thing? 2023 has been a hard financial year for Daily Kos.
